Watford boss Marco Silva: I 'cannot control' ongoing Everton speculation

David Moyes kicks off his West Ham tenure with a loss as Marco Silva's Watford handed him a 2-0 defeat.

WATFORD -- Marco Silva refused to be drawn on reports that he wants to join Everton after his Watford side beat West Ham 2-0 on Sunday.

Everton are still seeking to fill the vacancy left by the sacking of Ronald Koeman last month, but Watford do not want to lose a manager they appointed only in the summer.

Earlier on Sunday it was reported that Watford would turn down a further approach at any price.

However, sources have suggested to ESPN FC that a £12 million tag has been placed on buying Silva out of his two-year contract -- a price Everton are unprepared to pay.

Silva is not believed to have a break clause in his contract, and was non-committal about staying on at Vicarage Road.

"What I can control and what is in my hands is the next [training] session," he told reporters at his postmatch news conference.

"I don't want to put in doubt because you put in big titles [headlines]. I know the speculation, I know everything we talk about, even some of you put in doubt my commitment or whatever.

"This type of interest can happen but it's not fair to put in doubt commitment. It was a very good answer today. I think me and my players gave a very good answer to those putting my commitment in doubt or whatever.

"There are many good things to talk about in the club. Tomorrow I will give the session for the next match, and this is my job. The other things I cannot control."

During a match won by goals from Will Hughes and Richarlison, Watford fans sang for Silva to stay at the club and the manager said: "This is good.

"I didn't hear that... for me it is good when the fans enjoy what we are doing."

Watford climbed to eighth in the table while Everton, still under the charge of caretaker manager David Unsworth, are in 16th place, three points clear of 18th-placed West Ham.
