Harry Kewell leaves position as Watford under-23s coach

Former Liverpool and Leeds player Harry Kewell has left his role as Watford under-23s manager, he has confirmed.

Kewell took his first steps into coaching by taking the job in the summer of 2015, but confirmed his departure in a short written message on Twitter.

It read: "Regretfully myself and Watford under 23's have parted ways.. unfortunately results haven't been on my side.. however I'm extremely proud as 3 of my players have made their debut for the first team and 5 others have been in the squad..

"I'd like to thank Watford for the opportunity and wish the club and my players all the best for the future.. I'm looking forward to my next challenge.."

The Australian retired from playing in 2014 and took his coaching badges as he pursued a career in management.

Kewell's position at Watford has come under scrutiny after a difficult season for their under-23 side.

Watford's second string are currently bottom of the Professional Development League South and they have suffered embarrassing 8-0 and 7-1 defeats to Ipswich and Cardiff respectively.

As a result both parties have agreed to a parting of ways and Kewell has left Vicarage Road after two seasons.

Kewell boasts a wealth of Premier League experience having come through the ranks at Leeds, making over 200 appearances for the club, before spending five years at Liverpool between 2003-2008.
