Wales' Aaron Ramsey would welcome showdown against England

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey says he would welcome playing England to show who really is the best in Britain.

England fell below Wales in the FIFA world rankings for the first time last week with the Dragons in ninth place and Roy Hodgson's side down in 10th.

Wales' near-60-year wait to qualify for a major championship continued on Sunday when they were held to a goalless draw by Israel in Euro 2016 qualifying, while England booked their place in the finals in France next summer by winning in San Marino last weekend.

But Ramsey says he would relish a game against England having lost to them twice in Euro 2012 qualifying.

"There will be a bit of banter between me and some of my [English] teammates at Arsenal," said Ramsey, who plays with England's Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs at the Emirates, as well as the injured Danny Welbeck.

"It is always a great game, a committed game. I have been involved in two before. So yeah, why not play them? If it does happen, it will be a great game."

Wales' qualification ambitions might have been smothered by Israel's defensive blanket but Chris Coleman's side remain a sure-fire bet to make what would be the nation's first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup.

The unbeaten Group B leaders need only a point from their final two group games next month to qualify and even if they lost their last two games Israel would have to beat Cyprus and Belgium to deny them a top-two spot in the section.

Wales finish their campaign away to Bosnia-Herzegovina and then at home to Andorra, who have lost their last 52 competitive matches, and Ramsey feels they have the maturity to finish the job.

"This squad has got a lot of experience and many of the players play for top clubs around the world and have a lot of caps," Ramsey said. "We haven't been in this position before but I think our club experience will help us.

"We have done a remarkable job so far so we won't feel too down."

Manager Coleman admitted to a sense of anti-climax after Wales failed to secure the victory required on Sunday to book their place at the European Championship.

But Ramsey remains confident there will be no late drama as far as qualification is concerned.

"We are still top of the group with a couple of games to play and the mentality of the whole group has been terrific," Ramsey said. "We feel we can go to Bosnia and grab all three points, that's the confidence in this team at the moment.

"Hopefully we will be able to do that and have a successful end to what has been a great campaign."
