Divock Origi focused on Wolfsburg amid criticism, first-half substitution

Divock Origi in action for Wolfsburg against Hoffenheim.
Divock Origi has struggled for form at Wolfsburg.

On-loan Liverpool striker Divock Origi has become a better player at  Wolfsburg, his father and agent Mike Origi has told Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, despit the striker being substituted in the first-half of the 3-0 defeat at Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Following a listless performance and only 15 touches of the ball, Origi was substituted just 42 minutes into the loss.

His performance drew heavy criticism from the club's sporting director Olaf Rebbe, and local papers reported that his 23rd Bundesliga match for Wolfsburg might be his last.

However, speaking to Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, Origi Sr., has now said that his son "is not pleased with the situation and will impose himself on the coach again."

Origi Sr. also claimed that "Divock's focus is fully on Wolfsburg. He wants to help the club in the relegation battle."

Having joined Wolfsburg on a one-year loan without a view to a permanent transfer last summer, Origi was trusted with the place in central attack during the January transfer window as Mario Gomez left the club to return to Stuttgart.

But amid a three-coach year at the club, Origi has been unable to pay back the trust, scoring only once in eight appearances since the Bundesliga resumed following the winter break. Still, Origi Sr. insists that his son has improved during his time in Germany.

"Divock came to Wolfsburg to become a better player. And, in my eyes, he has achieved that," he said, adding that there has not been any contact with Liverpool in recent months.

"We'll sit down with everyone involved and discuss his future career path."
