Julian Draxler chose wrong path - Wolfsburg's Klaus Allofs

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has told Julian Draxler he chose the "wrong path" but said he hopes the club can rebuild its relationship with the player.

Draxler, 22, joined Wolfsburg from Schalke last year but has confirmed that he asked to leave the Volkswagen Arena after the club's disappointing 2015-16 campaign.

Wolfsburg have said the Germany international will not be allowed to leave, and he returned to team training on Friday after a reported knee injury.

Allofs told Bild: "Julian chose the wrong path."

Bild reported that Draxler could be fined up to €100,000 for his comments but Allofs added: "For us, it's important that we go back to a trusting professional relationship.

"A fine doesn't always have to be the response."
