Wolfsburg insist players take part in China tour at end of season

Wolfsburg have endured a disappointing season in the Bundesliga.

Wolfsburg have told their players they will have to take part in the club's postseason tour of China despite even if they are due to feature at Euro 2016 or the Copa America.

Wolfsburg, who have endured a difficult season despite reaching the Champions League quarterfinals, are set to tour China from May 16 to May 22, just two days after their last match of the season against Stuttgart.

Wolfsburg have three Germany internationals on their books in Andre Schurrle, Julian Draxler and Max Kruse and, should they be included in Joachim Low's squad this summer, they will be expected to join up with the national side when preparations begin on May 23.

Switzerland left-back Ricardo Rodriguez is also set to play at the European Championship in France while Brazil holding midfielder Luiz Gustavo is in line to feature at the Copa America.

Schurrle, who has been linked with a summer transfer, said the timing of the China tour is "not ideal for the national team" players, adding: "It's been a long season."

Speaking to Bild on Tuesday, Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs said that, while he can understand Schurrle's comments, it will not change the club's plans.

"I agree that it's substantially right it has been a long season," he said. "I have made everything else clear to the team. They will all fly to China."

The 2-0 defeat of Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal in early April has been a rare highlight for Wolfsburg this season after having finished second in the Bundesliga in 2014-15 as well as winning the DFB Pokal.

They have not won a domestic match in two months, picked up only two points in seven matches and dropped to 10th in the Bundesliga standings, with no chance left of returning to Europe next season.
