Wolfsburg's Max Kruse set for fine after reportedly losing €75k in taxi

Germany international Max Kruse is set to be fined by his club Wolfsburg for reportedly losing €75,000 in cash in a Berlin taxi in mid-October.

German tabloid Bild reported at the weekend that Kruse, 27, lost the money on the morning of Sunday Oct. 18 last year, following a 4-2 victory at home to Hoffenheim the previous day.

The Wolfsburg forward was said to have immediately complained to the police, but the money has yet to resurface, and the player reported for training later on Sunday.

Speaking on NDR TV, Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs warned Kruse, who joined Die Wolfe from Borussia Monchengladbach last summer, over his behaviour.

"You might be a private person as a footballer when you are in your bed," Allofs said. "At any other point, you are also an employee of the club."

On Monday, kicker reported that Allofs, Kruse and coach Dieter Hecking had held talks over the matter and that the forward had been hit with a five-figure fine. Bild said Kruse would have to pay his club €25,000.

"We have explained to him what sort of behaviour we expect from our players," Allofs said in kicker. "I can only hope that he has been taught a lesson and will change his behaviour."

Kruse was not as his best in Saturday's return match against Hoffenheim as Wolfsburg lost 1-0, and Allofs said the negative headlines "did not help his performance."
