Wolfsburg striker Nicklas Bendtner has said he divides opinion, telling the local Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper: "People either think that I am the greatest or throw bottles at me."

Bendtner, 27, joined the Bundesliga club in the summer and has made 15 appearances, starting four times and scoring three goals.

The former Arsenal man said he did not take what people think of him to heart and had "better things to do" than find out what was written about him online.

"I am not sure what my image is," he said. "It's different for different people, I believe.

"My mother always told me that I am person who polarises [opinion]. There is this saying in Denmark: 'You are someone who divides the sea.'

"I meet people, who think that I am the greatest person in the world, and I also meet others who want to throw bottles at me."

He also said he had changed the way he dressed since moving to Germany, explaining: "I decided that I no longer want to show up that well-dressed for training.

"I like to wear suits, but the other players thought it was a bit too much for training. That's why I left most of those clothes in London."

Denmark international Bendtner said he had changed his attitude to training since his move to Germany, adding: "It wasn't like I was running backwards, but I needed to understand the German training culture.

"At first, it was hard to conceive that performances in training are very important.

"I came to Wolfsburg to play football, and for nothing else. I am delighted and thankful to be in Wolfsburg."
