Struggling Valencia need wins and confidence - Alvaro Negredo

Valencia centre-forward Alvaro Negredo has said everyone at the club "must stick together" as they look to end an alarming slump in form.

Gary Neville's side have not won in nine La Liga games, with seven of those coming since the former Manchester United defender was appointed in December.

They have dropped to 11th in the table, 14 points off the top four and Champions League qualification.

On Tuesday, a "summit meeting" between Neville, sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch and chief executive Kim Koh was reportedly held at the club's Paterna training ground.

And Negredo told a news conference that the team needed to get their campaign back on track.

"We are united, although it is true that we are not in our best moment," the former Sevilla and Manchester City striker said.

"We need two or three wins on the bounce. The principal objective is La Liga. This club cannot be in the position we are in.

"I know it is difficult, but there is a long way to go. We are on a bad run and must all stick together -- not just the veterans."

He said confidence was low and added: "When you don't have it, you miss passes you shouldn't miss, and we up front don't have that mental freshness.

"But we know we will come out of this, and hopefully as soon as possible. We must take responsibility and take a step forward."

Negredo was also asked about his 45-yard strike in the 2-2 home draw against Rayo Vallecano and said: "It all happened very quickly.

"I knew their keeper played very far off his line. I did not know how much, but the ball went in off the post."
