United States assistant John Hackworth will leave his roles with U.S. Soccer to take over Louisville City, the USL champions announced on Thursday.

Hackworth has been the coach of the U.S. under-17 team since 2015 and joined the staff of the senior national team this year under interim coach Dave Sarachan.

The 48-year-old will complete the U17's training camp in Costa Rica this month before becoming the coach of Louisville.

"I am honored and humbled but mostly just excited to join Louisville City FC," Hackworth said in a statement. "It is an opportunity to join one of the most prominent clubs in this country and work with a fantastic group of people who are like-minded in their approach to achieving success in every area we can."

Hackworth's only previous club head coaching experience came in two years in charge of the Philadelphia Union over three MLS seasons from 2012-14.
