Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 Nurnberg

Nurnberg were left cursing a disallowed goal as they went down to a 3-1 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach to remain rooted to the foot of the Bundesliga.

Josip Drmic gave the visitors a surprise 21st-minute lead, but Juan Arango levelled and a Niklas Stark own goal put the hosts in front.

The main talking point of the game arrived in the 80th minute when Drmic thought he had brought Nurnberg level, but his goal was not awarded with neither the referee nor the linesman seeing that the ball had crossed the line.

Patrick Herrmann compounded Nurnberg's woes with a third goal as the Foals climbed to fourth in the table.

Nurnberg made a bright start and took a deserved lead when Hiroshi Kiyotake played the ball through for Drmic, whose low shot was pushed in off the post by Gladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The home side's response was a shot from Raffael which was pushed away by Nurnberg captain Rafael Schafer at his near post.

From dominating the game early on, Nurnberg were slowly being pinned back and an equaliser inevitably arrived in the 72nd minute.

Juan Arango was the provider as he curled in an unstoppable shot from open play into the top left-hand corner.

Nurnberg's resistance was broken, but they were unlucky in the way they fell two behind four minutes later.

Arango's free-kick came back across the face of goal, via a Nurnberg defender, and Stark stuck a leg out to turn the ball into his own goal.

An incident in the 80th minute typified Nurnberg's misfortune as they thought they had levelled when Drmic's header from seven yards hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced in.

With the German Football League stoically refusing to introduce goal-line technology, the referee and linesman's decision that the ball had not gone in will not be reversed.

Nurnberg's woes were compounded three minutes from time when Granit Xhaka fed Herrmann, whose angled drive found a way through Schafer to seal victory.
