Odd game but loss still tough for Arsenal fans to stomach. FA Cup will have to be the new fourth place which was meant to be like a trophy

  •

    [Comment from PCarrESPN via Twitter]
Tottenham-Man United, 11 AM ET on FSC. United is unbeaten in 11 straight league games at White Hart Lane.

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Bye for now.

  •

  •

Ravi Ubha: Guys and gals, thanks for joining Rog and I today.
    Enjoy the United game.

  •

    [Comment from Me2 ]
    Ref was easily MoM - 2 blown calls = 2 Chel$ki goals

  •

    [Comment from Me ]
too bad they can't merge teams - Chelsea playing the first half, Arsenal the second in every game would be unstoppable

  •

    [Comment from Boyce ]
Arsene doesn't know how to prepare his team

  •

    [Comment from benji ]
Should have been 1-1 if you ask me! Ramires fouled Coquelin on the first goal!

  •

Ravi Ubha: Again, folks, the link for Tottenham-United:

  •

    [Comment from Skyler ]
No it takes 45 minutes for Chelsea to start hibernation

  •

    [Comment from ukio ]
Seeing as the first goal was a farce, 1-1 looks fair.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Did it take the young guys 45 minutes to warm up in the cold?

  •

Ravi Ubha: And that is the bottom line.
How can a team be that flat in the first half for a derby game like this?

  •

    [Comment from Matt ]
Gunners send a message? It was a LOSS!

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar ]
Big win Blues. Tough effort. Great 1st half, true character type second half! KEEP THE BLUE FLAG FLYING HIGH.

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Striker, striker, striker.

  •

    [Comment from NY GOONER ]
    BUY BUY BUY

  •

Roger Bennett: St. Totteringham's Day is going to be unseasonably late this year

  •

Ravi Ubha: Make sure you join JT and the gang....thankfully that game is a go.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Here's the link for Spurs-United, folks.

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal.
The Blues dominate the first half but get battered and hang on for the points in the second.

  •

    Roger Bennett: Arsene out etc.

  •

    Ravi Ubha: FULL TIME.

  •

    [Comment from Edinson Cavani]
After seeing Arsenal play today, I have decided not to join Arsenal.

  •

    [Comment from El Rob ]
    Giroud. He's not so good.

  •

    [Comment from Theo Huxtable ]
2-1 doesn't tell the story of this match...

  •

Roger Bennett: That could be it... ugly football. Magical drama.

  •

Ravi Ubha: That should be that. 94:50

  •

Ravi Ubha: Arshavin digs out a cross and it's a good one, but Giroud's header is over the bar. Had a good look at it, too.

  •

Roger Bennett: Chelsea holding on for dear life at Fortress Stamford Bridge

  •

Ravi Ubha: Yet another corner, Cole concedes.

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar ]
    Unbelievable from Cahill! Brilliant!

  •

Ravi Ubha: GREAT clearance by Cahill as Theo about to shoot from three yards.

  •

Roger Bennett: Cahill magic there... stronger Theo and it would have been all tied up

  •

Ravi Ubha: Good punch by Cech.

  •

    [Comment from Briger]
With every miss he adds to it

  •

    [Comment from Michael ]
Had we beat Southampton midweek, we'd still be in the title race. If only, if only....

  •

    [Comment from El Rob ]
    For the draw!

  •

Ravi Ubha: Another corner as Ramires clears.

  •

Roger Bennett: Has Giroud always had that tattoo on his right inner arm?

  •

Ravi Ubha: Awful the entire game...

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Arsenal corner.

  •

Ravi Ubha: United. They have no chance at the title.

  •

    [Comment from Guest ]
if chelsea win, who do they cheer for in the utd v tottenham match?

  •

Ravi Ubha: The ball deep in Arsenal's half.

  •

Roger Bennett: Win for Chelsea today combined with United win should make fourth place the true final top of the table battle...

  •

Ravi Ubha: Niall Quinn names Ramires MOTM

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar ]
Ball to hand or hand to ball? Looked ball to hand but not sure.

  •

    [Comment from Boyce ]
Giroud takes a shot from about 50 yards...whatever..

  •

Ravi Ubha: Groans from Chelsea fans...

  •

Ravi Ubha: FIVE minutes of added time.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Meanwhile, Chelsea looked to have a pen ...but no call when Bertrand's shot hit Sagna on the arm.

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar]
I agree Rog. As a Chelsea fan I've been pleased by the work rate of some of our guys but MOTM probably is Mata or Lampard and that's not saying much.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Elects to shoot from 40 yards instead of passing to a teammate on the left. Just silly.

  •

Roger Bennett: Bertrand choses to run towards the lineman instead of chasing down the loose ball in the corner. Modern football.

  •

Ravi Ubha: What was Giroud doing?

  •

    [Comment from Skyler ]
    Chelsea are defending like Arsenal

  •

Ravi Ubha: Yeah, tale of two halves.

  •

Roger Bennett: Plenty of drama but hard to pick too many outstanding performances in this game.

  •

    [Comment from El Rob ]
    Hazard has the glovies, too!

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Was a card.
    Marin on for Hazard.

  •

    [Comment from CJ ]
    Shouldn't that be a card?

  •

    [Comment from john ]
Extremely smart defending by Cole. Sagna was through

  •

Roger Bennett: Fizzing. One of my favorite commentator adjectives. Also used as a verb

  •

Ravi Ubha: Vermalen does indeed take it, and his grass cutter goes across goal, three yards wide.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Better for the left footer.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Walcott and Ver over the ball.

  •

    [Comment from Morty]
Arsenal putting on their diving shoes

  •

    [Comment from Skyler ]
    Definitely outside the box

  •

Roger Bennett: Mata has dropped out of this game. quick feet look frozen

  •

Ravi Ubha: Yes, very clear, it was outside the box.

  •

Ravi Ubha: FK to Arsenal at the edge of the box, when Cole takes down Sagna.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Poor delivery by Jack.

  •

Roger Bennett: Ashley Cole never believes he has actually fouled anyone. His look of shock when the whistle is blown is priceless

  •

Ravi Ubha: This will be pumped into the box.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Another foul by Cole. on Cazorla. Near the sidelines, to the left of Cech.

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar ]
Ba had more time. Probably should have kept it a second more to either draw out Vermaelen or pass to Mata.

  •

    [Comment from El Rob ]
Ba's Chelsea gloves are just adorable.

  •

    [Comment from Boyce ]
This isn't hockey , you don't pull the goalkeeper in football!

  •

    [Comment from Larry ]
Wenger preparing his post-match comment: see, we don't need new players, we just have to play like that for 90 minutes

  •

    [Comment from de Selby ]
    Szczesny walkabout!

  •

Ravi Ubha: And quite the save, too, with his right leg.

  •

    [Comment from Jay Jay Okocha]
    Vermaelen just saved Fernando's career.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Ba broke on the left, the keeper comes out, he goes around the big Pole and only has Vermaelen to beat!

  •

Roger Bennett: Massive massive massive block by Vermaelen to deny my prediction

  •

Ravi Ubha: Off the line by Vermaelen!

  •

Roger Bennett: Terrible decision making by Theo there.

  •

    [Comment from Michael ]
    Wonderful Torres impression from Arshavin

  •

    [Comment from Josh ]
Just needed a kumbaya with Rafa to make the perfect picture.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Horrible touch by Arshavin as he tries to get around Azpilicueta. Goal kick.

  •

Roger Bennett: Demba Ba is going to score isn't he?

  •

Ravi Ubha: Into the 82nd minute...

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar ]
I'll give Torres a 6/10. Ran hard, did some solid work, just not effective enough.

  •

Roger Bennett: Nice site of JT on the bench there. Waving the rally towel.

  •

    [Comment from Guest ]
commentator just suggested torres made a good touch cause he saw ba warming up

  •

Ravi Ubha: Torres' substitution is welcomed by the fans. It's indeed Ba on. Torres and Ba hug. All together now: Aaahhhh

  •

    [Comment from El Rob ]
Ramires is a running stick figure, that can't have hurt.

  •

    [Comment from mike ]
jack, just let one rip like vs swansea

  •

    Ravi Ubha: LOL.
To be fair to Koscielny, he was Arsenal's best defender last season. Being in and out of the lineup this season hasn't helped.

  •

Roger Bennett: Thank God. Demba Ba. In the snow...

  •

    [Comment from Pete ]
both Ramsey and Arshavin on the pitch. Arsenal really need Santos or Koscielny to come on to complete the axis of underwhelmingness.

  •

    [Comment from jaime ]
so what is the chance arsene wenger buys anyone? i think .0000001%

  •

    [Comment from Boyce ]
    Beautiful defense by Verm!

  •

Ravi Ubha: Come on, Jack, get up. That was nothing.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Ramires gets am arm up and pushes Wilshere out of the way but on the 2-on-2 good defending at the back.

  •

Roger Bennett: Ramires had no intention of passing it to Torres there. None whatsoever

  •

    [Comment from El Rob]
    Torres to MLS!

  •

Roger Bennett: Amazing for Chelsea fans. They had Drogba, Sturridge, Lukaku and Torres. And the one they kept was...

  •

Ravi Ubha: He was very good in his first half season.

  •

    [Comment from Skyler ]
I will never forget the game at the Emirates where Arshavin scored the winner against Barca

  •

    [Comment from Victor ]
Definitely more excited for Diaby coming off

  •

    [Comment from Boyce ]
Leave it all out there on the pitch Arshavin!!

  •

    [Comment from Skyler ]
No, he lost Captaincy after his comments at the Euros

  •

    Ravi Ubha: I agree.

  •

Roger Bennett: No. No Longer the captain. Capello stripped him. Denisov i think.

  •

    [Comment from Peter ]
There is a goal left in this game.

  •

    [Comment from Briger ]
Don't know if I'm more excited for Arshavin coming on or Diaby going off

  •

Roger Bennett: Wenger reads the bootroom in game. Thought you were all being serious.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Off the top of my head, I don't think so.

  •

    [Comment from mike ]
is arshavin still officially the russian captain?

  •

    [Comment from Michael ]
Watch him score the winner hahaha

  •

    [Comment from Casey ]
Arshavin! Sends Rafa into shivers of fear

  •

    [Comment from Josh ]
Omg we're all joking about it but arshavin is up and coming on.

  •

Roger Bennett: This is going to be... interesting

  •

Ravi Ubha: And here comes the little Russian, for Diaby. Thank goodness.

  •

    [Comment from Michael ]
Arshavin's Russian blood will make him thrive in this snow. Bring him on

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
@SeanARubio Another thing you're forced to track re: statistics?

  •

Roger Bennett: Two goals v Arsenal for Ba

  •

Ravi Ubha: As a last throw of the dice, indeed why not?

  •

    [Comment from Boyce ]
He should try Arshavin! ..why not! Should be well rested.

  •

    [Comment from Andre Santos ]
Hello, I like the futbol. I can give up the goals too. Therefore I play, yes?

  •

    [Comment from Victor ]
Chelsea are content to just park the bus for the remainder of the match, eh?

  •

Ravi Ubha: Very good. He scored twice if I recall right in the 7-3 mauling.

  •

    [Comment from Fish ]
How's Ba's scoring record vs. Arsenal?

  •

Ravi Ubha: Ramires forces Szczesny into a decent diving save to the keeper's left.

  •

Roger Bennett: I like him. His spirit. His energy. But he has a lot to prove on a consistent basis before it makes me feel anything for England apart from numbness.

  •

    [Comment from Michael]
Rog, how does Wilshere's return to form make you feel about England's chances in the World Cup?

  •

Ravi Ubha: Bertrand coming on for Oscar.

  •

    [Comment from Julio ]
If Chelsea loses this then a bottle of Gin is being emptied.

  •

Roger Bennett: THe way the commentator says "Fernando Torres" with such sadness and dissapointment

  •

    [Comment from Andrei Arshavin ]
Put me in Arsene. I will be the hero today

  •

Roger Bennett: You would have made a good audience member back in the days of the Coliseum

  •

    [Comment from Briger]
    Bring on Lady Physio!

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Ba warming up...

  •

    [Comment from Jake ]
Sigh. Torres. Why is Ba on the bench?

  •

Roger Bennett: Torres' body shocked by briefly playing well. Not sure if he is going to be able to continue

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar ]
Sums him up. Flashes of brilliance, more disappointment.

  •

[Comment from Jay Jay Okocha ]
I can't believe how fast Torres looked there.

  •

    [Comment from Skyler ]
Where has that Torres speed been?

  •

    [Comment from Ziich ]
another chance for rvp to get injured! i mean for totenham to win

  •

    [Comment from Michael ]
Rafa waits wayyyy too long to make substitutions. I'm sure he'll bring Ba on in the 82nd minute so he doesnt have time to make an impact

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Torres again!
Does great to skip past Vermaelen but then takes a bad touch, ball straight to the keeper.

  •

    [Comment from Matt (NJ)]
More exciting: the game that will be played at WHL, or the pitch inspection. Making the latter a slight favorite.

  •

    [Comment from guest]
Arsene pep talk: Whoever plays well here will be sold to PSG/City next summer

  •

Roger Bennett: Than God Spurs game on! Now we have something else to do today America (and Canada)

  •

    [Comment from Peter ]
    Woo!

  •

Ravi Ubha: Game on at WHL.

  •

    [Comment from Casey ]
shame Podolski is out, he could really add something right now

  •

    [Comment from Guest]
The bbc has a minute-by-minute of the Spurs pitch inspection

  •

    [Comment from andrey]
    i'm cold

  •

Ravi Ubha: He is very bad at that...

  •

Roger Bennett: What did Arsene say to his gents at half time?

  •

    [Comment from Skyler ]
Ashley Cole's reaction to every single foul against him is another reason everyone hates him

  •

    [Comment from Seamus ]
Looked like Atkinson called the foul for the tug of the back of the shirt.

  •

Ravi Ubha: And sure enough Santi takes it, hits wall, goes out of play for a corner.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Well it favors the left footer...

  •

    [Comment from Casey ]
    don't let theo take this

  •

Ravi Ubha: 20 yards, to the left of Cech. Mata with a yellow for booting the ball away.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Cole bumps Walcott off the ball -- I think -- and it's a FK in a dangerous spot. Good call.

  •

    [Comment from Josh]
As a Spurs fan, a draw probably suits us as the best result, but I just can't root for Arsenal to score. I enjoy Wenger sulking around his technical area too much

  •

    [Comment from Boyce ]
The weather is gonna make this a crazy ending..

  •

Roger Bennett: What do they call a 2-0 lead in football? etc.

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Clive Owen :))

  •

    [Comment from Peter ]
I am thinking an Arsenal win, consider the previous weekend events - Barca lose - Owen scores

  •

    [Comment from Michael ]
At this point, the creators of Fifa should have an online roster update where the player ratings for Chelsea players drop by 10 points in the second half

  •

Roger Bennett: Demba Ba time soon surely for Chelsea?

  •

    [Comment from Leo ]
The Coq was awesome today. Hopefully his injury is nothing serious

  •

    [Comment from Julio ]
Chelsea need a morale boost. And I mean Terry.

  •

    [Comment from Jarrod ]
"Second Half Chelsea" - gonna trademark that

  •

Roger Bennett: Pitch being inspected right now at Spurs

  •

[Comment from Jay Jay Okocha ]
I've been ripping on Sagna all day, but he made a great tackle to spring the break there.

  •

    [Comment from Brandon ]
As a Spurs fan, I'd really like a draw here.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Oh boy, the Chelsea D parted like the Red Sea there. Walcott runs into the middle but his left footed shot is weak.

  •

Roger Bennett: All Downton lines are automatically published

  •

    [Comment from Guest]
arsene looks like the old lady from downton abbey

  •

Roger Bennett: Specter of Southampton II now hangs over Rafa and Chelsea

  •

    [Comment from Casey ]
    Putting on the shirt worked!

  •

Ravi Ubha: Will have to see again, but he's back on.

  •

    [Comment from Josh ]
Did walcott injure himself on the celebration?

  •

Ravi Ubha: Walcott also temporarily off the pitch with a leg injury.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Tempering the joy: Ramsey on for an injured Coquelin.

  •

    [Comment from El Rob ]
    Paging Demba Ba...

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar ]
Can we just score again to kill off the Gooners?

  •

    [Comment from Guest ]
    great pass

  •

    [Comment from HKS ]
    i'm right. history shall repeat?

  •

[Comment from Jan in Cardiff ]
I refuse to dream. Less disappointing if I don't.

  •

    [Comment from Briger ]
    Walcott!!! The Comeback Is On!!!

  •

    [Comment from NY GOONER ]
    HELLL LLLL YEAHHHH

  •

    [Comment from Michael ]
    Wow what a finish

  •

Ravi Ubha: He's been their best player on initiative, and Theo is put through by Santi and Theo once again shows his finishing is better than his crossing.

  •

Roger Bennett: ... dare to dream Arsenal fans...

  •

    Ravi Ubha: GOAL ARSENAL

  •

Ravi Ubha: Nice little scrap on the right between Walcott and Cole, won by Cole.

  •

Ravi Ubha: MUST do better, Giroud. Gibbs stands it up for Giroud, he's there, but not enough contact.

  •

Roger Bennett: A goal now for Arsenal now and...

  •

    [Comment from Riley ]
Wenger is so powerful at Arsenal he'll have to leave of his own accord.

  •

    [Comment from HKS ]
Chelsea again revert back to the second half they did against Southampton

  •

    [Comment from MLK ]
Man, that was an epic match between Djokovic and Wawrinka. And the match point was deserving of a five hour match.

  •

Ravi Ubha: No, will not be sacked.

  •

    [Comment from Boyce ]
100% positive Arsenal won't sign anyone in the January window and will miss the Champions league....biggest question is will Arsene be sacked?

  •

    [Comment from Casey ]
Well if Arsene does go to PSG I hope he takes Diaby with him

  •

    [Comment from Josh ]
Arsene Wenger is starting to remind me of the emperor in Gladiator watching all of his attempts to kill Russel Crowe end with "Are you not entertained?"

  •

Ravi Ubha: Nah. Arsene loves him.

  •

    [Comment from Casey ]
Diaby is having a terrible game. Hoping this season is his last chance

  •

Ravi Ubha: It's amazing, though, that with the number of 'promising' youth players at Arsenal, not many have gone on to make an impact at senior level. Anywhere.

  •

Roger Bennett: If it snows tomorrow during the Everton game, I fully expect David Moyes to go shirtless

  •

Ravi Ubha: I agree that Coquelin has looked OK today.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
FYI, world. RT @fcbusiness: Tottenham having pitch inspection at 2:50 ahead of today's game against Manchester United.

  •

    [Comment from Gervinho ]
When Coquelin is your answer in midfield against Chelsea, your team has problems.

  •

    [Comment from Larry ]
Funny, it hasn't been Coquelin over-matched in the centre

  •

    [Comment from Peter ]
I am feeling a Ba goal.

  •

Ravi Ubha: He's a promising talent, but shouldn't be a starter at this age. But he's in today due to injuries.

  •

    [Comment from Victor ]
I mean seriously, why is Coquelin ever in the XI, he wouldn't start for Reading...

  •

Ravi Ubha: A stoppage as Giroud down.

  •

Roger Bennett: Torres keeping Arsenal in the game

  •

    [Comment from Casey ]
Well I went and put on my Arsenal shirt, hope it can inspire a rally in the 7th inning stretch

  •

    [Comment from Briger ]
Arsenal could sign Cavani in FIFA 13

  •

    [Comment from Jarrod ]
Oh no... this looks like second half chelsea! Nooooooooooo!!!

  •

Ravi Ubha: Atta boy, Abou, losing possession again.

  •

Ravi Ubha: That's funny on Cavani and Arsenal.

  •

Roger Bennett: Points to Rafa. Just a blazer in the blizzard

  •

    [Comment from Gervinho]
Edinson Cavani has been spotted getting off a plane at Heathrow Airport and entering limo headed for the Emirates.....NEW SIGNING?????

  •

    [Comment from Skyler ]
Walcott onside for the first time tonight

  •

Ravi Ubha: Arsenal looking a little hungrier to start the second half. Walcott this time is on side and his shot on the right, inside the box, goes straight to Cech. Good closing down from Ivanovic.

  •

    [Comment from Brandon COYS ]
They are saying that it is very likely that the game will be called off, but there will be another pitch inspection at 2:50 GMT

  •

Ravi Ubha: To Arsenal in the box, but it's to Mertesacker, who shoots straight at Cech.

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Chance!

  •

Ravi Ubha: Another Arsenal man down, Cole on Walcott. Free kick to Arsenal. Looked like Cole got the ball.

  •

    [Comment from Peter]
My children will grow up knowing Man City as top class and Arsenal as bottom of the barrel, brings a minor tear to my eye.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Ramires hacks down Coquelin -- and this time Atkinson spots it.

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Back underway.

  •

    [Comment from Ziich ]
the man city game was lost in 10 min, this in abt 5. lets see how quickly we can lose to west ham or liverpool. lets try to get it under 1 minute lads

  •

Roger Bennett: It is cold, wet and hard.

  •

    [Comment from Brandon]
Okay, Roger, it's 2:30 GMT, what's the word on Spurs pitch?

  •

    Roger Bennett: No!

  •

    [Comment from Larry]
What, Rog, don't think Arsenal can beat Bayern? LOL

  •

    Roger Bennett: Yes!

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar]
They go out early in the FA Cup every year though right Rog?

  •

    Roger Bennett: Yes!

  •

    [Comment from Casey]

Arsene's halftime talk "well, we can't go home until this is over so ... "

  •

Roger Bennett: Dont worry Arsenal fans. You will always have the FA Cup

  •

Ravi Ubha: And the thing is, they've been on their surge without arguably their best player, Lallana.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Referring to Adkins, I suspect.

  •

Sack a proven "known" for an unknown, great logic.

  •

    [Comment from FLGooner ]
Yep...we dont need any new transfers. Just keep this same squad that cant beat anybody good or anybody crappy either. I mean getting embarassed by Rafa Benitez has got to be the low point. I support Arsene but if nobody at the club thinks **** needs to change then everybody should be sacked. Everybody.

  •

    [Comment from Larry ]
Right, Ravi. Almost like "I signed them, they must be good enough".

  •

Ravi Ubha: Apparently Pochettino has a very good reputation in Spain, a good young manager. That's what they say.

Damn... didn't hear of that one. Second question why is Demba Ba not on the pitch?

  •

    [Comment from Jake Nazar ]
A little info on Mauricio Pochettino. In 161 games his win % is roughly 33%. In his first season Espanyol finished 11th, 18 points behind Mallorca in 5th who really should have had the Europa League spot that year. His team was 8th in 2010-11, 9 points off of last Europa League spot. His team finished 14th in 2011-12, 9 points again off of Europa League. Solid, but not crazy to sack Adkins for.

Any word on if the Spurs game is going to happen?

  •

Roger Bennett: What amazes me about Arsenal is that relatively new American fans have no memory of them as a truly great football team. If they miss Champions League places this season, the financial implications could take a while to counter

  •

Ravi Ubha: I'd go for both.

  •

  •

Roger Bennett: Premier League -- relentless pace -- takes a toll in the first year. Look at David Silva. Also -- Teams have figured him out to an extent.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
@GreenieJules yes. That's an essential square.

  •

    Roger, what's caused Cazorla's fade?

  •

Ravi Ubha: I think Harry has his own stuff to worry about at Loftus Road.
Hey -- Arsene's players are a function of his own philosophy. He's simply too stubborn to pay what's needed for top quality players.
It's OK, just keep trotting out the likes of Diaby, Ramsey, Coquelin et al.

  •

Roger Bennett: J26Terry is the account. it is surreal.

  •

If the EPL really wanted Arsenal to get relegated just make them play all their away games in the North during Jan and Feb. Traditionally they play terrible or lose huge FA cup matches, only to blame the conditions for not being like the playing surfaces at the emirates

  •

Roger Bennett: Chelsea fans... can one of you explain the mystery of John Terry's Instagram account to me? What is he trying to achieve. To put all of the spoofers and photo shoppers out of business?

  •

Ravi Ubha: Another bad corner by Arsenal. Chelsea counter but ball goes off Mata for a goal kick.

Fernando Torres tries the ol' "Change Your Hair, Change Your Fortune" trick. It worked so well for

  •

    [Comment from Morty ]
    "Slight" as in "phantom"?

  •

Ravi Ubha: Yes, there's no question that his best position is defensive mid. Far too erratic as a central defender.

  •

    [Comment from Michael ]
That hurts Chelsea big time. I feel like putting him in the defensive midfield to chase around Wilshere would have been effective. He would muscle Wilshere around and at least bother him

  •

  •

Ravi Ubha: He has a slight ankle injury.

  •

    [Comment from Michael ]
Why is David Luiz not in the active squad today?

  •

Ravi Ubha: He missed the midweek FA Cup game vs. Swansea.

  •

Ravi Ubha: And no, Jan, his sending off was for last man, not violent conduct.

  •

[Comment from Jan in Cardiff ]
That is a very weak bench for Arsenal.

  •

Ravi Ubha: I'd give it to Torres. But I think if Arsenal had a full squad, Walcott would be playing up the middle as the striker. More menacing and would give the Chelsea defense something to think about.

the true battle is btw torres and giroud. who will miss the most chances?

Hope this to be a scorcher. Got on my Arsenal kit and ready to go. Put me in Skipper.

  •

[Comment from Jan in Cardiff ]
@Tim, in recent weeks, Wilshere has been Arsenal's best player.

  •

[Comment from Ben From NZ ]
Yea, no Ba. Mertesacker's prayers were answered!!

  •

Ravi Ubha: The edge to Chelsea, with the major guy being Ba.

  •

    Ravi Ubha: Good question, Jan:

Arsenal: Mannone, Koscielny, Jenkinson, Santos, Frimpong, Ramsey, Arshavin.
Chelsea: Turnbull, Ferreira, Terry, Bertrand, Ake, Marin, Ba.

  •

[Comment from Jan in Cardiff ]
In that case, what options do Arsenal have on the bench?

  •

Ravi Ubha: The problem if they start together is: Who do you take out from midfield?
In midweek against Southampton, Rafa played Torres on the wing and Ba through the middle when they were both on the pitch. Lampard got sacrificed, which wasn't popular with the fans.

  •

    [Comment from Liam ]
Ravi what do you make of Torres ahead of Ba? Would you like them to start together?

  •

    [Comment from ChelseaFan ]
    Let's go Chelsea, beat Arsenal

  •

Ravi Ubha: Chelsea 4-2 Arsenal, Tottenham 2-2 United.

  •

    [Comment from Manny ]
Got any predictions for the matches for us?

  •

Ravi Ubha: I think Cazorla had a great first few months. He's tailed off a little recently.

  •

    [Comment from Tim Gillespie ]
Everyone is talking about how theo walcott is arsenal's best player. But I feel that he is very inconsistent and Arsenal's best player by far is Santi Cazorla

  •

Ravi Ubha: I agree. Ba is the man in form indeed.
But I would have thought Benitez will give Torres a bit more time to prove himself. He's not about to abandon ship just yet.

  •

    [Comment from HKS ]
So Benitez prefer Torres over Ba again. clearly Ba is on form right now and Torres isn't

  •

Ravi Ubha: Some big misses for Arsenal today. No Podolski and the Ox due to illness, and Arteta still out injured. Big advantage for Chelsea.

  •

[Comment from Ben From NZ ]
Big chance for Coquelin to impress here. Hell of a midfield to come across though

  •

    Ravi Ubha: The lineups:
Arsenal: Szczesny; Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Gibbs; Coquelin, Wilshere, Diaby, Cazorla, Walcott; Giroud.

Chelsea: Cech; Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Cahill, Cole; Ramires, Lampard; Oscar, Mata, Hazard; Torres.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Recent games have been open indeed, so I'm with you. I think we'll have goals in this one.

  •

    [Comment from Morty ]
I expect a wide open attacking affair this morning. you?

  •

    [Comment from Jan in Cardiff]
Mind you, a couple defensive mistakes always cost Arsenal.

  •

    [Comment from Manny]
Morning from Dearborn, MI Ravi! No snow here but the winds whistling and knocking over trees right now.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Maybe the Gunners will take advantage of the heat on Rafa at the Bridge.

  •

Ravi Ubha: Juan Mata ran the show when Chelsea beat Arsenal at the Emirates early in the season. Mind you, a couple of defensive mistakes cost Arsenal.

  •

Ravi Ubha: I'm with you for Chelsea-Arsenal, and JT will be with you for Tottenham-United.
