    James Tyler: Bye!

  •

James Tyler: Check there for future Boot Rooms, of which there will be many. Thanks to all of you! 2013! QPR winning games! New Year Resolutions!

  •

James Tyler: Check ESPNFC.com for footy stuff.

  •

James Tyler: Find me on Twitter: @JamesTylerESPN

  •

James Tyler: Happy New Year to all of you, even the ones that hate when I type words. Thanks for joining me in the Boot Room and making it so much fun.

  •

James Tyler: It is on ESPN3 if you're in the mood though. Two Everton players dazed and confused after a clash of heads.

  •

James Tyler: Right then. I must dash as there's work to be done. Sorry for not being able to sort the final 10 minutes of Newcastle-Everton.

  •

James Tyler: No clue on the CL yet but I reckon Bayern gets a chance to make amends for last season's final defeat.

  •

James Tyler: Um, United to win the title. Spurs to knock Arsenal from top four, QPR Southampton and Reading to drop.

  •

    [Comment from Ryan]
What are your predictions for how the EPL turns out at the end of the season, and the Champions League Final?

  •

    [Comment from Jeff Moulton]
I think it is more impressive when you figure that 4 of QPR's 13 points have come from Chelsea. If not for the Blues, they'd be in single digits.....

  •

James Tyler: Wait a sec -- Chelsea's been playing rather well under Benitez. But one defeat means it's all for nowt.

  •

    [Comment from Bryan]
Absolute disgrace of a performance by Chelsea. Like his time at liverpool Rafa destroys team chemistry by making whole-scale changes in his squad. Title chances over. Fight for the Champions League spots beginning

  •

James Tyler: Nicely done. And yes, obviously.

  •

    [Comment from ABCD]
Can QPR win the league from here ?

  •

James Tyler: Right, because relegation can do that. Thanks!

  •

    [Comment from phillips]
may liverpool get relegated and you lose the ability to type.

  •

James Tyler: Fair points, Ryan. All fodder for the hindsight machine. He picked a team he thought could win.

  •

    [Comment from Ryan]
QPR deserved the win, agreed. I just think Rafa fielded a team that really shouldn't have been fielded. I'd have liked to see Moses up front, with either Hazard or Mata feeding him

  •

James Tyler: First QPR win at Chelsea since 1983.

  •

James Tyler: Not enough to heave QPR off the bottom of the table, mind you, but take a bow, 'Arry Redknapp. LFC within seven points of the top four, which is hilarious and inconsequential.

  •

James Tyler: Um, wow. Five points dropped by the Blues against the Prem's worst team.

  •

James Tyler: Chelsea 0, QPR 1.

  •

James Tyler: FT from Stamford Bridge....

  •

James Tyler: Sarcasm? He hasn't played for ages, really.

  •

    [Comment from PCarrESPN via Twitter]
QPR wins a league game at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 1983, ending a 12-match winless streak there.

  •

    [Comment from LFC-Red]
This loss shows how important Sturridge is to Chelsea

  •

James Tyler: Good result, great performance. Rodgers will be pleased.

  •

James Tyler: A Suarez brace and a Sterling lob. Nine points from four games over Xmas. If you're a Liverpool fan, you know that's incredible as the festive season traditionally brings pain.

  •

James Tyler: FT: Liverpool 3, Sunderland 0.

  •

James Tyler: Falcao reportedly won't move until the summer out of respect for Atletico. Willian might move but no drama brewing there yet.

  •

    [Comment from Ryan]
No Falcao or Willian transfer saga?

  •

James Tyler: He'll provide plenty of healthy competition at LW/RW while also spelling Suarez up front.

  •

    [Comment from Vic]
You probably got this already... but where does Sturridge fit in? especially now that Downing's corpse has a pulse again

  •

    James Tyler: Transfer's already confirmed.

  •

    [Comment from Kareem Ofweet]
If Chelski lose, will it guarantee that Ba gets transferred to the Bridge?

  •

James Tyler: I do think Spurs is front-running. A shift to remain in Serie A would suit Sneijder better though.

  •

    [Comment from Dan W]
    where will Sneijder land?

  •

James Tyler: January rarely brings mega-shocks. It's a time for the disgruntled to force moves and for players nearly out of contract to get re-signed or shipped on for pennies. It's also a desperate spell.

  •

James Tyler: Surprisingly, not really. I do think there is a sting in the tail of the Theo Walcott saga, mind you.

  •

    [Comment from Ryan]
    Any big transfer window predictions?

  •

James Tyler: Stoppage time at Anfield and Stamford Bridge.

  •

James Tyler: Too many mince pies covered in brandy, etc.

  •

    James Tyler: Agree.

  •

    [Comment from Ryan]
I have to say, the officiating at times has been appalling this holday break

  •

    James Tyler: No.

  •

    [Comment from Chai]
If the result holds, do you think Rafa will be fired by tomorrow?

  •

James Tyler: Thanks Azam. I must be BIASED. But when LFC is playing well and 3-0 up, I suppose I should not talk about that.

  •

    [Comment from azam]
JT you should really not do text commentary for pool games, its nauseating. I am sorry but it really is. I have read your commentary at other times and its really good, today its just plain annoying.

  •

James Tyler: I think you want that ruthlessness in your players. Forget if the team is winning big; it's about perfection.

  •

    [Comment from Zach]
Suarez is the angriest player in game with a brace and a healthy goal lead

  •

James Tyler: Everton still beating Newcastle at St. James's with 20 to play.

  •

James Tyler: Liverpool displaying an unusual thirst for goals. Reds fans had better not get used to it. But it's nice today. Full value for the win. Meanwhile, Chelsea's about four minutes away from home defeat to 20th place QPR.

  •

James Tyler: Joe Allen is desperate for his first LFC tally. Offside called on Downing, wide left. But what a lovely cut-back by Downing to find Allen unmarked on the penalty spot. Lovely crisp strike by Allen, too. Alas.

  •

James Tyler: ANOTHER LIVERPOOL GOAL DISALLOWED

  •

James Tyler: If the squad was deeper, then no. Given that Rodgers has been performing witchcraft with 17 players all season, the answer's yes. And Downing's improved immeasurably of late.

  •

    [Comment from AF]
Has Downing played well enough to stick around at Liverpool?

  •

James Tyler: Because you have Oscar and Marin, RAH? You're Chelsea! You have good players! And more than 11 of them!

  •

    [Comment from RAH]
Why would you simultaniously rotate Mata nd Hazard out

  •

    [Comment from Archer]
Chelsea should have the depth to beat QPR anyways.

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Liverpool! Joe Allen is compelled to dart into the box, Lampard-style. He meets the low cross from the left but turns it wide from close range.

  •

James Tyler: And in theory, you'd expect Chelsea's squad to be deep enough -- it is, on paper at least -- to navigate past QPR.

  •

James Tyler: Oh, sorry. Just rotation. The funny thing about squad rotation is that it's necessary and people only ever complain about it when the rotation results in a bad game.

  •

    [Comment from Baker]
I think Ryan meant why did Rafa start the players who are normally subs.

  •

    [Comment from PCarrESPN via Twitter]
@andrewBRASUK Man United leads with 24 (8 wins); Everton is second with 17 (4 wins, 5 draws).

  •

James Tyler: He actually brought in better players. Called Juan Mata in with the game at 0-0.

  •

    [Comment from Ryan]
Why did Rafa start with the subs?

  •

James Tyler: People will never stop mocking Redknapp. It is one of the Premier League's enduring memes. It will never, ever cease.

  •

    [Comment from Spalding]
If Redknapp, does save QPR from relegation, will people stop mocking him?

  •

James Tyler: Corner amounts to nothing.

  •

James Tyler: Mild chance for Sunderland. Lucky bounce almost puts the ball on Fletcher's foot but Agger stylishly guides it out for a corner.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
    "Quick, Marko. Headbutt someone."

  •

    [Comment from KevNJ]
    I blame the fiscal cliff.

  •

    James Tyler: Sorry, Ben's Keyboard.

  •

    [Comment from Ben]
JT I am unable to watch any of the matches today since I am at work, and I spit my tea all over my keyboard when I saw you announce that QPR goal. Thanks for that.

  •

James Tyler: 82nd minute at Stamford Bridge.

  •

James Tyler: Glen Johnson fizzes one from distance having worked infield from the left flank. Narrowly wide.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
    QPR. We know drama.

  •

    James Tyler: DRAMA. THINGS. HAPPENING.

  •

James Tyler: Low shot from ex-Blue, SWP.

  •

    [Comment from Ian (LFC)]
Who's down with SWP? (yeah you know me)

  •

    [Comment from Jake]
With this win, Liverpool are only 2 points behind West Brom, 3 points behind Arsenal (though they have a game in hand) and 5 points behind Everton.

  •

    [Comment from John]
    THE WORLD IS ENDING!

  •

    [Comment from JJ]
CALLED IT! RESULT OF THE SEASON COMING AT THE BRIDGE!

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
GOAL FOR QPR. Zut alors no, zut alors no no, zut alors no no no no.

  •

James Tyler: Shaun Wright-Phillips with the drama injection at Stamford Bridge, there.

  •

James Tyler: Yes, you're reading that properly. QPR leading at Chelsea. #RafaOut

  •

James Tyler: GOAL -- Chelsea 0, QPR 1

  •

James Tyler: Moyes. Always Moyes in any debate. He's the architect of this magic plan, its beating heart. Moyes has replaced players before and can do so again.

  •

    [Comment from Jim, Jersey]
Who will/would be bigger loss this summer at Goodison, Moyes or Fellaini?

  •

James Tyler: Still scoreless at Stamford Bridge. About 13 minutes left there also.

  •

James Tyler: 13 minutes left at Anfield.

  •

James Tyler: Of course, hilariously there's little assurance of minutes at the current version of Liverpool. Quite what Ince is doing is anyone's guess.

  •

James Tyler: Andrew hits to the marrow of the Ince debate. I have little time to look things up.

  •

    [Comment from Andrew]
Ince refused to sign a new contract at Liverpool because he wasn't guaranteed playing time. Option was to sell him under value or let him leave for free

  •

    [Comment from Jim, Jersey]
    Spotty wi-fi. The fiscal cliff.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
Old age: when the players you consider to be older than your dad are actually a year younger than you.

  •

James Tyler: Mere moments after Anichebe comes on, he's given Everton an away lead.

  •

James Tyler: Unselfish play by Nikica Jelavic to square for his strike partner.

  •

James Tyler: GOAL -- Newcastle 1, Everton 2 - Victor Anichebe

  •

James Tyler: Ince is a good young wide forward. Tons of potential. One can blame his sale on several things: simple oversight, clerical error, previous LFC power structure, needed quick money, etc.

  •

    [Comment from Andrew]
What are your thoughts on Ince? If he has turned out this good why was he sold to Blackpool on the cheap in the first place?

  •

James Tyler: Glen Johnson a whisker behind the last man. Shame, really. Lovely low finish under pressure.

  •

James Tyler: GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL -- But it's disallowed for offside.

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR LIVERPOOL: Martin Skrtel off, Jamie Carragher on. Carragher becomes #2 all-time on the LFC appearances list. 493 times played for Liverpool. Well then.

  •

    James Tyler: More importantly...

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR SUNDERLAND: Danny Rose off, David Vaughn on.

  •

James Tyler: Well, it's certainly a murderer's row compared to the festive fixtures.

  •

    [Comment from Dave]
Thoughts on LFC's upcoming fixtures...ManU, Man City, Arsenal, and West Brom among others...how many points should they be targeting?

  •

    [Comment from JJ]
Travis, its reaaaaaal quiet at the bridge right now... believe you me

  •

James Tyler: LFC corner, Gerrard to bash it into the middle. Cleared at the near post.

  •

James Tyler: Here comes Juan Mata for Chelsea. UNLEASH THE JUAN.

  •

James Tyler: Primarily focused on Liverpool but an eye on the others, yes.

  •

    [Comment from Travis]
I get your a liverpool fan but isnt the Boot Room covering all three games?

  •

James Tyler: Can one side with murmurs?

  •

    [Comment from Ian (LFC)]
Which murmurs are you siding with

  •

James Tyler: 20 minutes left at Anfield. Going to ease on the live game minutiae to answer more questions if you'd all rather. The Boot Room is your oyster.

  •

James Tyler: Flagged for offside. Murmurs that there was a foul on the goalkeeper. Also murmurs that it was a legit goal wrongly dismissed.

  •

    [Comment from Ian (LFC)]
I'd like some details about the disallowed Lampard goal

  •

James Tyler: Still 1-1. An absolute snorter of a goal by Leighton Baines that's worth finding online.

  •

    [Comment from AJ]
any updates on the everton vs newcastle game?

  •

James Tyler: Almost a third for Suarez! He simply muscled past his marker and had a low shot but Mignolet kept it out.

  •

James Tyler: Anyway, good night tonight for the Reds.

  •

James Tyler: As my friend Richard Farley notes, how did this LFC team lose to Aston Villa? Such is the maddening nature of Liverpool.

  •

James Tyler: LAMPARD GOAL DISALLOWED FOR CHELSEA

  •

James Tyler: It was a 4-3-3, Bilbo. Just working nicely today. Good rhythm, good pace. Sunderland willing victims today, though. Offering little resistance.

  •

    [Comment from BilboBaggins]
I am at work and just looked up our starting line-up...hendo and suarez up top? Looks like a 4-4-2? What did we do JT and how well is it working?

  •

    James Tyler: Almost as dumb?

  •

    [Comment from Green]
Three envelopes almost as dumb as team Yoga

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR LIVERPOOL: Jordan Henderson off, Suso on. Nice switch. Good effort by Henderson today.

  •

James Tyler: Right then, sorry about that hiccup.

  •

James Tyler: Offside flag against Stewart "Am I A Name In Rodgers' Three Envelopes? Maybe" Downing.

  •

James Tyler: Glen Johnson and Suarez combine on the left edge of the box. So much fun being had at Anfield. Today at least.

  •

James Tyler: Honestly not sure, Ben. I'm not as privy to the Moroccan NT as I should be. But Assaidi's a different type of player from Taarabt -- one plays CAM, the other a wide attacker -- to make it plausible that one is needed over the other.

  •

    [Comment from Ben]
JT, correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Taarabt get left out of the Moroccan ACoN squad? And how on earth did Assaidi get in?

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR SUNDERLAND: Seb Larsson off, James McFadden on.

  •

James Tyler: Suarez drills the free kick into the Sunderland wall.

  •

    [Comment from Michael]
Hazard comes on for Marin. Hazard looks like the coolest kid in his fraternity

  •

James Tyler: I expect it will happen soon, but there's nothing wrong with letting them have fun and build up more chemistry.

  •

    [Comment from Paul]
this is where liverpool should be takin off stevie and suarez, no point playing them right now as the game is done.

  •

James Tyler: YELLOW CARD, SUNDERLAND: James McClean clatters Suarez near the edge of the box. Too much pace.

  •

James Tyler: African Cup of Nations. Called up by Morocco.

  •

    [Comment from KevNJ]
    Where is Assaidi these days?

  •

James Tyler: See Pog's riff. Fletcher has been keeping them afloat but the current XI isn't getting it done. Still think there are 3 or 4 worse teams that will keep Sunderland safe.

  •

    [Comment from Eric]
James, are Sunderland in danger of the drop?

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
When Sunderland plays badly, they absolutely look like a bottom 3 club. They have just been dire at times this season. It will be interesting to see what happens to them in the spring. And to be fair, I laughed at the amount they paid for Fletcher, but he's been good for them.

  •

James Tyler: Thinking LFC might swap to a 4-2-3-1 with Allen-Gerrard deep but not sure yet.

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR LIVERPOOL: Raheem Sterling off, Joe Allen on. Rest, rotation etc.

  •

James Tyler: I think all Reds fans do. This was always going to be a gentler holiday period given the run of opponents: Fulham, QPR, Sunderland. That said, still need to go out and get the points. That and the thumping by Aston Villa showed there are no foregone conclusions in the Prem.

  •

    [Comment from Jake]
JT I need take these last two impressive wins by LFC in stride and not get my hopes too terribly high?

  •

    James Tyler: Close enough.

  •

    [Comment from Matt R]
I can't see the game but from the way you just described it, it seems like the Sunderland defenders were just sitting down on the pitch watching the game

  •

James Tyler: Defender didn't know who to mark, space opened, Suarez stormed on through.

  •

James Tyler: Agreed. The perils of Zonal Marking right there. Not Michael Cox, but the concept.

  •

    [Comment from Dan W]
the run across the middle by Downing is what opened up that gaping maw of a passing lane

  •

James Tyler: Even so, simply filthy stuff. And LFC is on course for another authoritative win.

  •

James Tyler: 2. The Sunderland defenders left Suarez alone

  •

James Tyler: 1. Not a single Sunderland player bothered to pressure him

  •

James Tyler: So it was an incredible long-range pass by Gerrard, but consider the following:

  •

James Tyler: Ask the wife first, not so depressed red.

  •

[Comment from not so depressed red]
    i'm renaming my son "steven"

  •

    [Comment from Michael GFOP]
    WHAT A PASS

  •

    [Comment from Dan W]
    unbelievable pass

  •

James Tyler: Yes, it was a Route 1 job, but the Mackems were carved as cleanly as a Sunday leg of lamb.

  •

James Tyler: Suarez controls and effortlessly caresses the ball underneath a despairing Simon Mignolet.

  •

James Tyler: Steven Gerrard picks out a rakish, gorgeous pass down the middle for Suarez as the Sunderland CBs drifted far too wide from one another.

  •

  •

James Tyler: LUIS SUAREZ HAS DONE IT AGAIN. THE IT BEING A GOAL.

  •

    James Tyler: GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL

  •

    James Tyler: I could never.

  •

    [Comment from Pat]
James, you should have a shirt that says "Keep Calm and Join the Boot Room"

  •

    James Tyler: Dream away, Casey.

  •

    [Comment from Casey]
I can dream that Baines will go to Arsenal, right?

  •

James Tyler: Good shout. Not sure why more players aren't aware of those narrow channels. Seems silly, but defenders switch off thinking the ball's going out or the attacker has no room to work.

  •

    [Comment from Joe]
Berbetov is the only other player I can think of that can match Suarez's skills on the touchline/sideline.

  •

James Tyler: Yep. Sick. Nasty. Awful.

  •

    [Comment from Pat]
That Baines goal is disgusting. And I mean that in a good way.

  •

James Tyler: Chance for LFC! Sumptuous flick-on by Suarez to play Sterling in on goal following Gerrard's heavy pass, but Sterling can't slot it. Goal kick.

  •

James Tyler: He's deadly in those slivers of room right on the touchline, agree. Few players truly try anything there but he's always lively there.

  •

    [Comment from rogbennett via Twitter]
For those asking, Newcastle-Everton is on ESPN 3 in the US

  •

    [Comment from Michael GFOP]
I have never seen a more gifted player on the endline with the ball at his feet than Luis Suarez

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Victor Moses at the Bridge but he can't get enough contact on a low cross to turn it in.

  •

James Tyler: Pass-pass-pass-pass. LFC looking lively again but James McClean breaks up the fun.

  •

James Tyler: LFC corner is not really dealt with. Suarez gets it wide right and tries to arrow in on goal down the touchline but loses the ball. Goal kick, Sunderland.

  •

James Tyler: Henderson wins a corner for LFC. Having a good game so far. Against Sunderland. Oh, caveats.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
@DanLevyThinks I want names of Brits that say that. (kidding)

  •

James Tyler: Chelsea-QPR has lurched back to life also.

  •

James Tyler: HT at St. James's Park: Newcastle 1, Everton 1.

  •

    [Comment from rogbennett via Twitter]
Here's the Baines goal. From 30 yards. The equivalent of putting yourself in the shop window and polishing the glass bit.ly/UkUQJK

  •

  •

James Tyler: Right, we're off again! Football!

  •

James Tyler: No, he's not. He's the first Demba Ba for Chelsea. Those comparisons only serve to inflate expectations by association. Damaging. Let Ba be Ba. Don't force him or demand him to be Drogba. Only Drogba can be Drogba.

  •

    [Comment from Matt R]
After reading your notes JT, I can clearly say that Demba Ba is the next Drogba for Chelsea no questions asked

  •

James Tyler: Sessegnon has been anonymous so the Mackems go for two up front. Makes sense I suppose.

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR SUNDERLAND: Stephane Sessegnon off, Frazier Campbell on.

  •

James Tyler: WOW. Pog's Friend, take a bow.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
Was just discussing the Mata/Hazard "Hazmat" name with a friend -- he points out that once Ba signs, they can be BAHAMA. I think that wins.

  •

    [Comment from mike]
Baines, Saurez, and Sterling in my fantasy team...nom nom nom points

  •

    James Tyler: Now, moving on.

  •

James Tyler: What, Dirk Kuyt and free jazz? It's a joke I carried from my old web site. Basically, I grew irritated at the fact that Dirk Kuyt was only ever described as "hard-working." Thus, I wanted something new to describe him. And I settled on his love of free jazz. Which is totally made-up. But it could be something.

  •

    [Comment from C. Greed]
JT - tell us more about this Kuyt jazz stuff... whats up with that?

  •

James Tyler: Thundering? Stunning? All of the adjectives.

  •

    [Comment from BIL]
WHAT A STRIKE FROM BAINES! WE WON THE LEAGUE@2

  •

    [Comment from rogbennett via Twitter]
Leighton Baines has just scored the kind of goal that would make your teeth fall out

  •

James Tyler: GOAL! Everton level at Newcastle via Leighton Baines!

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
In self-aggrandizement news: I scribbled (literally) some tips on surviving the transfer window. j.mp/Wehp2v

  •

James Tyler: You can, Rob. But let me be your bookie so I can at least scoop up the vig.

  •

    [Comment from Rob]
JT - So I shouldn't place my transfer bets on what I have been reading in the Daily Mail?!?!?!

  •

James Tyler: Look at that, Sir Ian and Macca answering #FCBootroom queries. Never ceases to make me smile.

  •

James Tyler: Would imagine an unveiling tomorrow at the Bridge.

  •

James Tyler: Magpies boss Alan Pardew already announced it.

  •

    [Comment from Ryan]
Any idea when chelsea will announce the signing of Ba?

  •

James Tyler: Excellent point. It's when Daniel Levy wakes from hibernation, looks around Europe and signs someone for 8-10m.

  •

    [Comment from Spalding]
JT, no point in talking about any Tottenham news until the last 2 days of the month. Nothing ever happens with them until then.

  •

James Tyler: Reminder about the transfer window: no-one is ever truly "ITK." If they say they are, don't believe it.

  •

James Tyler: That said, Fergie's tried to get the likes of Steven Defour in the past. He's not above sneaking a deal or two if they make sense. Anyone's guess.

  •

James Tyler: Carrick is good, Jim. At least he's been better this year than in the past at United. Needs someone with more energy/dynamism next to him. Tom Cleverley should be that. Really, the return of Shinji Kagawa helps massively settle the United midfield.

  •

    [Comment from Jim, Jersey]
Newsflash: Sir Alex rates Carrick as DM. Unless someone he rates better is available for the right price, I'm guessing ManU keep the current course, which finds them seven points in front

  •

James Tyler: Joe Cole to be announced as a West Ham player tomorrow, according to some people. Again, wait for confirmation before celebrating/commiserating, etc.

  •

James Tyler: It was confirmed just as games were kicking off today, Matt. It's happening. It's done. It's a thing.

  •

    [Comment from Matt R]
JT, I'm not sure if you mentioned this before but where does Chelsea stand on the Demba Ba move, is this going to happen?

  •

James Tyler: But, I stress that this is all just talk and speculation. We won't know until they play a few times, etc etc. And even then we might not fully know. Might take a season. Assume that he's a long-term signing and not simply a guy for the next six months.

  •

James Tyler: Indeed, Wallguest. To be honest, Suarez might benefit from having someone like Sturridge to distract defenders. What made Suarez amazing at Ajax and with Uruguay was the presence of another assertive forward who opened up room for him to thrive.

  •

    [Comment from Wallguest]
Sturridge never developed an ability to play out wide, but a lineup with Suarez & Sturridge up front accompanied by Sterling Shelvey Suso & Skrtel makes a nice S squad

  •

James Tyler: 11 shots on goal for Chelsea v. QPR, only one of which was actually ON goal.

  •

James Tyler: It's the one thing everyone asserts they need, but Fergie is adamant that no-one is being signed. He likes to be sneaky in the window, so take that quote with a truck full of salt.

  •

    [Comment from Steevens]
Any chance that SAF picks up a DMF?

  •

James Tyler: Welcome, Tony, to the Liverpool v. Sunderland live Boot Room.

  •

    [Comment from Tony]
Why so much chat about Liverpool? They'll be relegated regardless of how they do with the window...

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
HT: Chelsea 0 QPR 0. Now a brief pause for the craziest transfer rumor I've heard today: Scott Parker to Fulham. I... would not put money on that one.

  •

James Tyler: No, I think Sturridge will be assessed on merit and given a chance at his preferred position.

  •

    [Comment from Pierce]
But JT, do you think that Liverpool will use him correctly? Or will the try the same thing the Blues did, only switching Torres for Suarez?

  •

James Tyler: Hilariously, Tottenham seems the front-runner. I hope for their sake it doesn't happen. Sneijder is a guy who demands to be built around, not a final jigsaw piece. He views himself as the entire puzzle.

  •

    [Comment from Tyson]
Where will inter ship Wesley Schneider off to?

  •

James Tyler: Marko Marin lucky to still be playing, also.

  •

James Tyler: HT at Stamford Bridge. No goals and plenty of awful football there thus far.

  •

James Tyler: I don't think we agreed on a universal shorthand, Autry. But that's a decent one.

  •

    [Comment from Autry]
Excuse me Ryan, but the preferred name for that duo is Hazmat.

  •

  •

James Tyler: Pretty decent half, that. The Reds lead via Raheem Sterling's glorious lob and Luis Suarez' forceful shot. A deserved two-goal gap, all told. (Waits to be accused of BIAS.)

  •

    James Tyler: HALF-TIME: Liverpool 2, Sunderland 0.

  •

James Tyler: Yeah, and Rodgers is big on improving decision making on the ball. Sturridge can benefit from closer counsel.

  •

    [Comment from Jared]
Sturridge never failed at Chelsea he has performed rather well when given opportunities. He just plays too selfish sometimes.

  •

James Tyler: One minute of added time at Anfield. LFC in charge but conceding plenty of silly free kicks to give Sunderland chances to climb back in.

  •

James Tyler: Free kick for Sunderland is caught by Pepe Reina and he cues another fast-break with a sharp long-range throw. LFC really looks smooth going from defense to attack. Jose Mourinho once noted that speed in transition was the most important thing a team has to do well.

  •

James Tyler: Yes, Chelsea could use something approaching creativity. QPR's stodge is working so far.

  •

    [Comment from Ryan]
matazard needed in the second half

  •

James Tyler: Because he's young and has played reasonably well for England's youth teams (and Team GB at the 2012 Olympics, in which he scored twice) to merit a longer look. Players like Sturridge need minutes to settle and succeed. LFC needs players so Raheem Sterling doesn't age rapidly and decay. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement. Plus you trust in the coaching staff to maximize his potential. Happens with every player, whether off-form or in-form when they move clubs.

  •

    [Comment from C. Greed]
JT - Why have faith in Sturridge if you are LFC? He has failed at two big clubs already. He has talent but doesn't seem to "get it".

  •

James Tyler: Just a poor run of form. Don't think anything profound happened, per se.

  •

    [Comment from Tammy]
Can you explain what has happened to Joe Allen? He went from 100% passing to blah.

  •

James Tyler: No -- they're propped up by a rather wealthy chap.

  •

    [Comment from Nick]
Will QPR need to enter administration after they lose their Premier League revenues?

  •

James Tyler: 42 mins gone at Stamford Bridge: Chelsea 0, QPR 0.

  •

James Tyler: LFC free kick is converted into a corner for Liverpool. Skrtel gets his header but it's wide.

  •

James Tyler: So mostly confidence-boosting, more minutes and smarter usage. That and LFC's in a soft portion of its schedule. Lots of fodder in recent weeks, most of which has been dealt with.

  •

James Tyler: Think some of it is simple mind games -- talk 'em up, make them feel loved and wanted and they'll perform for you -- and some is how they're used. Henderson with plenty of ball in central midfield -- Kenny played him wide right far too much -- and Downing is enjoying plenty of space out wide given that Suarez and the midfield is causing so much chaos for him to profit from.

  •

    [Comment from Michael]
What is Rogers doing with Downing and Henderson that Dalglish couldn't? Last year it looked like LFC might as well have set money on fire buying those two, but they've been borderline impressive this year

  •

James Tyler: Meanwhile West Ham has just Matt Jarvis offering anything approaching menace from wide positions. Marriage of convenience.

  •

James Tyler: Word has it he'll be a Hammer again soon. He's old, has an absolute albatross of a contract that FSG simply couldn't justify.

  •

    [Comment from Kaje]
JT, Where and why did Joe Cole go?

  •

James Tyler: 7 minutes to half-time. Wisdom has a shot blocked on the right fringe of the box.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
Liverpool's speed and purpose in transition has been markedly improved of late.

  •

James Tyler: Sunderland with a bit more pressure in the past five minutes. That said a Mackems throw-in deep in LFC territory is stolen and worked up the right flank to Suarez, who breaks again with speed. He works it infield to Henderson who finds Downing galloping down the left wing. Downing's shot is deflected out for a corner.

  •

    [Comment from Michael]
Deary just clotheslined Marin. Literally just stuck his arm across his neck and knocked him off his feet. It was actually hilarious to watch, looked straight out of WWE

  •

James Tyler: Chelsea sloppy, QPR poor. Two wrongs not making a right.

  •

    [Comment from tombomb]
How are things going in the Chelsea game? Are QPR playing well?

  •

    James Tyler: Nemanja Vidic.

  •

    [Comment from Baker]
In an "All Dark Alley" Premier League first XI, who pairs with Skrtel at CB? As in, who are you scared to death to meet in a dark alley? (Credit to Jalen Rose for All Dark Alley team.)

  •

James Tyler: Suarez shoots weakly from 20-odd yards on the volley. It dribbles to Mignolet.

  •

James Tyler: Definitely truth to it. LFC has asked about him. Move is odd though given that Brad Jones just signed a contract extension not long ago. Doni perhaps the odd man out.

  •

    [Comment from Dan W]
JT, any truth in the Jack Butland to LFC rumor? Reina has been a bit sloppy this year.

  •

James Tyler: I expect if he does leave, it will be amicable and fair.

  •

James Tyler: I think Lampard still has a tangible future with Chelsea. At least until the summer. Been good since Rafa rolled into town. Earned another six months until his contract's done.

  •

    [Comment from C. Greed]
JT - thoughts on all the speculation that Chelsea are going to give Lampard the boot? I would lose faith in the way this organization is run if they disrespect Super Frankie.

  •

James Tyler: Corner's cleared by Agger.

  •

James Tyler: Larsson thumps the dead ball into the wall. But hang on! Not cleared, ball pinged back in, Steven Fletcher has a free header inside the six yard box but Reina's equal to it.

  •

    James Tyler: Very true.

  •

    [Comment from Tom]
and when the players play in the games, things happen.

  •

James Tyler: Skrtel with his 36th foul of the first half. Fells Fletcher again, this time about 25 yards from goal and dead central. Silly move. Nice shooting chance for Larsson, Johnson or Gardner.

  •

James Tyler: I mean, transfers or not, there are still games to be played. And players generally play in games.

  •

James Tyler: Believe nothing, El Rob. Take nothing from anything. Just keep expectations low, cynicism high and don't think about anything until something happens.

  •

    [Comment from El Rob]
Should we take Fellaini's inclusion in the Everton starting XI as an indication he's sticking around at least until summer?

  •

James Tyler: It wouldn't be a Boot Room without BIL.

  •

    [Comment from BIL]
WHY ISNT THE EVERTON GAME ON TV BECASE WE ARE GOIN 2 WIN THE LEAGUE

  •

James Tyler: Mat, she must think you mean Chelsea Handler. Yeah, that's it.

  •

    [Comment from Mat]
JT, I told my girlfriend that my one true love is Chelsea and she stormed out of the room. Perhaps I was misunderstood?

  •

    [Comment from Ben Krimmel]
Sir Ian with a Tootsie and MASH reference on 29 minutes. Now that is something you don't hear everyday.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
    @NutmegRadio Brilliant

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
RT @NutmegRadio: It wouldn't be hard to turn your home ground into a fortress. All you'd need is a moat, archers, lots of tar, fire, and ...

  •

James Tyler: ... almost 3-0 there. Quick transition up the other end -- just three passes -- but the final pass is blocked and cleared.

  •

James Tyler: Another Mackems' near-post flick-on, this time by Carlos Cuellar, but again it slides wide. LFC doesn't clear but Reina saves comfortably. Liverpool on the counter...

  •

James Tyler: Sunderland free kick is deflected out for a corner by Lucas. Decent shot by Gardner.

  •

James Tyler: Nah. You've played well in recent weeks, to the surprise of everyone. There's a spot for you, I think.

  •

    [Comment from Stewart Downing]
am I going to be sold? Brendan and i are on different wave lengths

  •

James Tyler: It's 0-0. If that's stinker, I know many teams who would take it. Still, the Blues do look like they're still hungover from 36 hours ago.

  •

    [Comment from C. Greed]
looks like Chelsea are laying another stinker against QPR

  •

James Tyler: Craig Gardner misses a clearance as Henderson swings in a teasing back post cross... ball bounces through for Downing to poke home from close range but he can't guide it inside the post.

  •

    James Tyler: Chance for Liverpool!

  •

James Tyler: I don't bother with a shirt, Pog. It's tattooed.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
Admit it JT, whenever Liverpool scores you rip off your jersey to reveal a t-shirt that says BIASED. (First BIAS accusation of 2013!)

  •

James Tyler: YES -- Anfield brayed for a free-kick as Suarez was felled but he sprang up and took the ball on, ref let him go.

  •

    [Comment from KevNJ]
    Good advantage by the ref

  •

James Tyler: Also, tsk-tsk Cuellar for getting that tackle wrong. Could have cleared ball, opted to take out Suarez, bad decision.

  •

    James Tyler: Nicely done.

  •

James Tyler: So, let's recap: Gerrard's ball wide right for Suarez is almost cut out by Cuellar, but the defender tries to shove Suarez off it and proceeds to fall over, clearing a path infield to goal. Suarez dusts off, sprints into the box and whacks it with the outside of his right foot between Mignolet's legs.

  •

  •

James Tyler: He shuns a pass infield for Sterling and thumps it in himself! Marvelous!

  •

    James Tyler: LUIS SUAREZ

  •

    James Tyler: GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL

  •

James Tyler: Berbatov's was the worst ever because he went with the "Keep Calm..." conceit that drives me crazy. And it was written in pen. Badly. I expected better from Dimitar.

  •

    [Comment from Jim, Jersey]
    See Berbatov's T-Shirt? I couldn't believe it!

  •

    [Comment from Dan]
my goal celebration would reveal a shirt that says "Look at my shirt!!"

  •

    [Comment from Jim, Jersey]
    "Narcisstic Message Here"

  •

James Tyler: LFC seeking goal number two... good clearance by Cuellar to dispatch a menacing right-flank cross. Moments later Martin Skrtel crumples Fletcher like a soda can for no apparent reason.

  •

James Tyler: Thank you Sir Ian! Tweet questions -- #FCBootroom -- and they'll answer them at half-time. It's a smart thing to do.

  •

James Tyler: He was the only QPR player to show anything close to effort against LFC the other day.

  •

    [Comment from Mat]
Thought on Adel Taarabt? I think he is a brilliant player with a poor attitude who just needs to mature. Any chance a big team takes a gamble on him?

  •

James Tyler: "THIS IS A T-SHIRT."

  •

    [Comment from Michael]
What's the best shirt Cisse could have had on? My vote goes for "Ba Humbug!" even though we're a bit late on the holiday reference

  •

James Tyler: When do I get my percentage, Dave?

  •

    [Comment from Dave]
JT, I keep coming back to Boot Room for classics like "zesty challenge" and then attempt to use them in business presentations...please keep up the good work as I continue to get promoted

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Sunderland! Sessegnon to Fletcher to Colback to McClean, a lovely flowing move but the Irish winger thumps it wide on his better left foot. Shoulda done better.

  •

James Tyler: Yes but did he have it printed on his t-shirt? That's the only goal celebration anyone is allowed these days.

  •

    [Comment from Pat]
Cisse scored and asked who is Demba as they lead Everton.

  •

James Tyler: A particularly zesty challenge.

  •

James Tyler: Henderson's crunched in midfield by Carlos Cuellar.

  •

James Tyler: So... your move, Sunderland.

  •

James Tyler: Suarez isn't afraid to play a pass, you know. Gorgeous goal.

  •

    [Comment from Tom]
on cue, good pass from Suarez

  •

[Comment from not so depressed red]
    STERLING goal, that

  •

    James Tyler: Dead nice, that.

  •

James Tyler: Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous. Mignolet's goal kick headed up by Gerrard to Suarez, the Uruguayan chips it over the stodgy offside trap and catches Sterling's run to perfection.... he bears down on goal and lobs the advancing keeper with consummate ease.

  •

  •

    James Tyler: RAHEEM STERLING

  •

    James Tyler: GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL

  •

James Tyler: A clash of heads at Chelsea-QPR. David Luiz has just headbutted Oscar firmly in the face.

  •

James Tyler: Michael, one might wonder if the front three actually complete any passes to one another. Should be fun. Sorry, "fun."

  •

    [Comment from Michael]
Sterling Suarez Sturridge? Who would have ever thought that Suarez would be the best passer in a front 3

  •

    [Comment from Adam]
Cisse goal! Howler by the Everton defense.

  •

James Tyler: 17 minutes gone at Anfield. Not the most electric contest thus far.

  •

James Tyler: So that's a nice way to commemorate Demba Ba's departure...

  •

James Tyler: GOAL -- Newcastle 1, Everton 0 -- Cisse

  •

James Tyler: Yes. Expect plenty of that. Or Borini when fit.

  •

    [Comment from conway]
with sturridge signed could liverpool go with a 4-3-3 with a sterling suarez sturridge front 3?

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
Hoilett off injured for QPR. Shaun Wright-Phillips on. This game is pretty, pretty slow going so far.

  •

James Tyler: Free kick is hoofed into the LFC box and cleared.

  •

James Tyler: Foul on Seb Larsson by Henderson in midfield. Gerrard stood over the ball for a good five minutes while picking out his latest long-range pass. Larsson stole it off his toe, Henderson clattered him for his insolence.

  •

James Tyler: !!! Thank you to all of you as well.

  •

    [Comment from C. Greed]
JT - Happy New Years, thank you for all you do for us Boot Roomers!

  •

James Tyler: Shaun Wright-Phillips warming up for QPR... he's coming on soon.

  •

James Tyler: No -- expect Sturridge to play LW or RW alongside Suarez. Also to get time at CF/ST when Luis needs a rest/is red carded.

  •

    [Comment from Guest]
glen will liverpool play 2 up front with sturridge now signed

  •

James Tyler: A good move if you like your French right backs. Arguably the best RB in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons. Should help reduce the amount of minutes Danny Simpson and James Perch get.

  •

James Tyler: Other transfers... MATHIEU DEBUCHY from Lille to Newcastle.

  •

    James Tyler: That's clever, that.

  •

    [Comment from Autry]
    Marouane Felony

  •

James Tyler: Gerrard takes the corner, it's half-cleared, Henderson's follow-up is saved by Mignolet.

  •

James Tyler: Downing stings Mignolet's palms with a nicely angled free kick. It's curling in until the Belgian keeper turns it around the post.

  •

    James Tyler: Chance for Liverpool!

  •

James Tyler: It's definitely more fun, unless your club is buying players. It's like last call at the bar. I'll leave that analogy there.

  •

    [Comment from Peter]
JT thoughts on the january transfer window? I think its more fun than the summer because it's just chaos for a month

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
"A year of highs and lows for Chelsea. One could say the same for Queen's Park Rangers, really." Minus the highs, I suppose.

  •

James Tyler: Suarez is caught by Kilgallon on the edge of the Sunderland box. Free kick, LFC.

  •

James Tyler: 0-0 at Stamford Bridge also. Everton-Newcastle to kick off in 5 minutes. Fellaini starting for Everton.

  •

James Tyler: Liverpool has much more speed in transition than it did last season. Henderson skids it wide for Downing who does well to win a throw-in deep in Sunderland territory.

  •

James Tyler: No. He's a 4-2-3-1 man. It is flexible, sensible and does seem to fit what Chelsea has, talent-wise.

  •

    [Comment from Austin]
Do you think Rafa will switch up the formations to two up front?

  •

James Tyler: Sunderland, but it's much closer than we would have expected a few months back. Can Cisse replace Ba's prodigious goalscoring?

  •

    [Comment from Will]
Who do you think will face a bigger relegation battle: Sunderland or Newcastle?

  •

James Tyler: Liverpool's turn to pressure. Oohs and ahhs as a couple of crosses are cleared. Ball comes to Downing wide left but he's offside.

  •

James Tyler: Chance! LFC knock it about the Sunderland attacking third. Worked smoothly from left to right by Gerrard following Cuellar's clearance. He finds Andre Wisdom, who tries to Glen Johnson it from distance. Whizzes safely over the bar. Not bad but not great.

  •

    James Tyler: Yes.

  •

    [Comment from Jim, Jersey]
Does that make Scott Sinclair "I Went to Man Citeh And All I Got Was Adam Johnson's Hand-Me-Down Lousy T-Shirt?"

  •

James Tyler: Clearly, Marin's a little too happy to have been let out of his cage.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
Chelsea could have gone down to 10 men just now. Bonkers challenge from Marko Marin is leniently awarded a yellow.

  •

James Tyler: What about Torres? Chelsea's been flirting with Falcao for months, so we knew Torres' days as line-leading, first-choice striker were perhaps numbered. Healthy competition for starting spots is never a bad thing.

  •

    [Comment from Archer]
    But, what about Torres?

  •

James Tyler: Half-chance: James McClean flicks Seb Larsson's corner on at the near post, it skids through the crowd and out for a throw. Phew.

  •

James Tyler: Swung in menacingly by Adam "I Went To Man City And All I Got Was A Lousy T-Shirt" Johnson, half-cleared. Sunderland wins a corner as Craig Gardner's hopeful shot is blocked out.

  •

James Tyler: Fletcher chases a speculative pass into the right channel and is promptly thumped off the ball by Martin Skrtel. Free kick, Sunderland, wide right.

  •

    James Tyler: IT BEGINS.

  •

James Tyler: Sir Ian confirms Demba Ba to Chelsea. So there.

  •

James Tyler: I enjoy it all. To pick a favorite would be to pick a fave child.

  •

[Comment from not so depressed red]
jt - do you enjoy these spontaneous chats more or less than the research, etc. that has to be done for stories?

  •

James Tyler: Glad you enjoy your work, IT Guy.

  •

    [Comment from IT Guy]
I'm about to watch the LPool v Sunderland game at work. I love being an IT guy. YNWA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  •

James Tyler: We're three minutes in. LFC with the lion's share of the ball though with little to note.

  •

James Tyler: An impressive opus, one I can only admire at present.

  •

    [Comment from Ben Krimmel]
Liverpool in the Premier League era is sort of like the Barksdale organization in season 3 from The Wire. Haven't adjusted to the emergence of big money owners (Marlo) and Avon (LFC) still want their corners, which could be the end of the LFC of old. And of course, to strengthen the analogy, in 1875 Baltimore, the setting of The Wire, was called "The Liverpool of America" in Scribbner's Magazine.

  •

James Tyler: You're too kind, Dan. Though the Boot Room is no deity. But it likes when it is worshipped as such.

  •

    [Comment from Dan]
And on the 7th day, God created the Boot Room!!! what a way to get me thru the rest of work!!

  •

    James Tyler: (boo)

  •

    [Comment from Archer]
Alright, Sunderland and Liverpool have 10 minutes to convince me not to switch to the Newcastle v. Everton game.

  •

James Tyler: Just for Chelsea, I mean.

  •

James Tyler: CFC-QPR kicked off also. Setting the goals O/U at 4.5 there.

  •

James Tyler: Well done Jake. Sorry -- Jake ITK.

  •

    [Comment from Jake]
Rumour on twitter is that Sneijder was spotted at John Lennon Airport being picked up by two men.

  •

    James Tyler: We're off!

  •

  •

James Tyler: Right, are we ready? Good. I am. Kickoff imminent. And don't forget to tweet questions for Sir Ian Darke and Macca. Use #FCBootroom on Twitter.

  •

James Tyler: I don't do those kinds of predictions, simply because I end up crying at how wrong I am. Please see the infamous Charlie Wyett tweet about Robin van Persie, namely that he was convinced RvP would never manage double-digit goals for Man Utd.

  •

    [Comment from Guest]
Hello James, what is your guesstimate of goals for Sturridge in Red this year?

  •

James Tyler: As for David Villa, he's clearly on the fringe for Barca these days. Alexis, Pedro, Tello all coming in and thriving. Tons of La Masia talent ready to further marginalize the striker not long back from a broken leg.

  •

James Tyler: NO on the second bit, but the first bit is very serious. Sneijder's done at Inter. The protracted contract debate has ended that relationship, I reckon. Inter's wanted the mercurial Dutchman to take a pay cut for ages and he won't. As is his right. Serves the club right for overpaying him.

  •

    [Comment from CJ]
How serious can we take Sneijder and Villa leaving Inter and Barca? And either landing in LFC???

  •

James Tyler: Borini's staying put. Young lad on a long-term deal. And he's still injured. Magpies to finally give Papiss Cisse his starring role up top with Ba gone. Oh, and the Ameobis. I love the Ameobis.

  •

    [Comment from Autry]
Chelsea get Ba, Liverpool get Sturridge, Newcastle get...... Borini?

  •

James Tyler: All it really clears is a few million in wages. Which will still help, don't get me wrong. I still don't see LFC making a ton of moves beyond the ones we're perhaps sure of. I reckon Ince will be hauled in. Thomas Ince. A player LFC had until not long ago, sold for cheap and will likely pay lots more to get back. #MONEYBALL

  •

    [Comment from Rob]
And Liverpool finally get rid of Joe Cole...that has to open up some room for the window.

  •

James Tyler: Well done, Pog. You lasted longer than I did.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
Happy New Year, Boot Room! My resolution was to not get sucked into transfer speculation. I've already broken it!

  •

James Tyler: I'm probably wrong on the QPR formation but it is a mess. Just like the team itself. Meanwhile, Marko Marin gets a run against the Prem's worst club as the Lampard/Luiz holding mid axis gets another 90 minutes to cement itself.

  •

James Tyler: QPR v. Chelsea: JuLOL Cesar; Onuoha, Nelsen, Hill, Fabio; Derry, Granero, Mbia, Hoilett; Taarabt; Mackie.

  •

    James Tyler: CHELSEA v. QPR:
Cech; Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Cahill, Bertrand; David Luiz, Lampard; Moses, Oscar, Marin; Torres.

  •

James Tyler: Other lineups, you say? I can do that.

  •

James Tyler: Would be a shame. Surely Paulo, the ultimate man-on-the-end-of-the-bench, could simply sell his number?

  •

    [Comment from Autry]
Chelsea will finally relieve Paolo Ferreira of his janitorial duties at Stamford Bridge so Demba Ba can have the #19 jersey.

  •

  •

  •

James Tyler: Yes and no. He also had a steady stream of new managers to impress over and over again. He was best at LW under Di Matteo but now with Hazard, there's no room. Ultimately feels like a dump to benefit Financial Fair Play. Remember, clubs can spread the cost of new signings over several years while player sales can be counted in a lump sum on this year's ledger. Useful math wizardry for teams with assets to shed.

JT, isn't playing out in a wide role the reason for the supposed "attitude problem" Sturridge had at Chelsea?

  •

James Tyler: I like Danny Rose a lot but like even more that he's deep at LB where he can't cause nearly as much havoc. Weird to see Larsson, a comfortable right-sided midfielder with excellent crossing ability, again shoehorned into central midfield. But there you go.

  •

James Tyler: SUNDERLAND: Mignolet; Gardner, Cuellar, Kilgallon, Rose; A. Johnson, Larsson, Colback, McClean; Sessegnon; Fletcher.

  •

James Tyler: Glen swapping to LB, scene of some good times, as Enrique's out. Wisdom, the young hybrid CB/RB, slots in at RB. Marvelous.

  •

James Tyler: LFC: Reina; Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Wisdom; Henderson, Lucas, Gerrard; Downing, Suarez, Sterling.

  •

James Tyler: Who wants lineups? I do.

  •

    James Tyler: Define "survived."

You survived the New Year, JT? Shocker.

  •

James Tyler: Can augment Suarez up top but most likely will play a wide forward role and create the same kinds of headaches Arsenal currently has with Walcott, namely just where to play him in order to get the most out of him.

  •

James Tyler: I'll say this about Sturridge: hope it pans out. It unsettles me slightly at how easily (and cheaply) Chelsea let him go, but there's tons of upside to him. Lacked minutes and confidence at Chelsea, two things he'll be given plenty of at Anfield.

  •

James Tyler: YES. Liverpool signed a player who is a real person. Has football boots, shin pads, the whole thing. All limbs. Amazing.

Good Afternoon! First off, what do you think of the Sturridge signing?

  •

James Tyler: Done deal. Joins tomorrow. Will be back-up for Jordan Henderson.

Will LFC sign Messi during the January window?

  •

James Tyler: You and I are going to be good friends, WW. I can feel it.

    happy new years, JT

  •

James Tyler: It's another year! Full of days, weeks and months! Some of those things will have football in them!

  •

James Tyler: So, Happy 2013 to you all!

  •

James Tyler: Excuse the mess. Clearly no-one cleaned the Boot Room since New Year's Eve. A mountain of Panini stickers all over the place. Awful.

  •

    James Tyler: Hello!
