Dom Dwyer hits four as Sporting KC crush FC Dallas, Red Bulls roll

Dom Dwyer scored four times as Sporting Kansas City crushed FC Dallas 6-2 to move on following their U.S. Open Cup fifth round match.

Dwyer got things going in the fifth minute heading home from close range, then added two more in the first half to put the game out of reach before Dallas ever had a chance to get in the game.

It was a record-setting night for Dwyer, as no SKC player has ever scored four goals for the club in any competition.

FC Dallas got second-half goals from Michael Barrios and Kellyn Acosta, but it was too little too late for the visitors whose U.S. Open Cup run is over.

Sporting are undefeated at home this season and will advance to play the Houston Dynamo in the quarterfinals.

The New York Red Bulls cruised past New York N.A.S.L. neighbors the Cosmos by a final score of 4-1. Four different players scored for the hosts in the match.

Just days after beating MLS crosstown rivals New York City FC, the Red Bulls came out strong against the Cosmos with Sal Zizzo netting early on in the fifth minute.

The Cosmos would level 10 minutes later through a Lucky Mkosana goal, but the draw wouldn't see the end of the first half, as Anatole Abang struck right before halftime to give the Red Bulls a 2-1 advantage.

Sacha Kljestan netted from the spot in the 54th minute and Mike Grella scored in extra time to secure the win and a spot in the quarterfinals of the U.S. club championship.

The LA Galaxy traveled north to play the San Jose Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium and secured a 1-0 win to move on.

Jose Villarreal scored in the sixth minute and, despite losing the possession battle, the Galaxy were able to hold off the hosts. Los Angeles will play Real Salt Lake in three weeks in their quarterfinal match.

RSL earned their berth in the quarters by beating the Portland Timbers 2-0 at home.

Sebastian Jaime scored in the 54th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 edge and Javier Morales put things away in the 71st minute, converting a penalty to secure the win.
