U.S.'s Josh Sargent scores fifth goal in seven matches for Werder Bremen U23 squad

Josh Sargent struck his fifth goal for Werder Bremen's under-23 team in just seven games as the United States international was on target from the spot in a 3-0 win at VfB Oldenburg on Sunday.

Sargent, a striker, joined Werder Bremen on the day of his 18th birthday in February, and he has been eligible to play for the club since the summer when he made his competitive debut for Werder's under-23 side on July 31.

Having debuted for the United States this summer, the 2017 U.S. Young Soccer Player of the Year will remain in Germany for the latest run of international games as he works towards his goal of moving closer to the Bundesliga squad.

Late last week, Bremen's first-team coach Florian Kohfeldt told a news conference that "Josh will definitely get playing time in our friendlies [during the international break]."

He added: "He's training with the senior squad, and that's why he's not far away [from making the squad]. We know he's here, we also know that he's good. We will carefully introduce him."
