United States to face Mexico in Sept. 11 friendly in Nashville

The United States men's national team will host Mexico in a friendly in Nashville on Sept. 11.

ESPN FC reported last month that the U.S. was finalizing deals to play Brazil and Mexico during the September international window, and the game against El Tri was confirmed on Thursday. It will air on ESPN at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The U.S. has played at Nissan Stadium five times since 2006, most recently in a 1-1 draw against Panama at the 2017 Gold Cup in front of 47,622 fans. The NFL venue will also host games at the 2019 Gold Cup.

The Tennessean reported that the game against Brazil, which has yet to be formally announced, is set for MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey -- another NFL venue -- on Sept. 7.

The September friendlies could mark the debut of the next U.S. men's manager, and with the U.S. already slated to play friendlies against England and Italy in November, the new coach will face some high-level competition right away.

Mexico has been a frequent U.S. opponent, with the two teams squaring off 67 times, the most recent of which was a 1-1 draw in a World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Azteca last June.

The U.S. is set to play Bolivia in the Philadelphia area on Monday, followed by friendlies in Ireland and France in early June.
