Everton invite U.S. U20 goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann to trial

University of California goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann, the son of fired U.S. national coach Jurgen Klinsmann, has been invited to a trial by English Premier League club Everton.

The 6-foot-4 freshman, 19, was awarded the Golden Glove as best goalkeeper when the United States won the CONCACAF Under-20 championship earlier this month in a penalty shoot-out victory over Honduras.

After a rough start to the tournament in Costa Rica, the U.S. bounced back to secure the World Cup berth.

He is expected to re-join the U20 squad for the United States at a training camp in London next week and then will travel to Everton's training ground.

The United States has also invited Everton left-back Antonee Robinson, 19, to the training camp. Robinson has recovered from a knee injury and has returned to Everton's title-chasing U23 side this season.

Klinsmann, who also has a German passport, is among 20 players on the American squad for CONCACAF's U20 Championship. The U.S. has now advanced to the World Cup for the third straight cycle and 10 of the last 11.

Klinsmann was fired in November and replaced by Bruce Arena as U.S. coach.
