Jurgen Klinsmann announces veteran-heavy U.S. roster for CONCACAF Cup

Jurgen Klinsmann has named his 23-man squad for the United States' crucial CONCACAF Cup match vs. Mexico on Oct. 10 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. The winner earns a spot in the 2017 Confederations Cup.

The veteran heavy roster includes seven players with 50 or more caps, and four -- DaMarcus Beasley, Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard -- who have surpassed 100 appearances for the United States.

Klinsmann made it clear that the group was put together with one goal in mind: securing a spot at the Confederations Cup.

"This is about having a group of players who understand exactly now what this is all about," Klinsmann said in a statement. "This is about momentum. This is about high energy. This is about representing my country. This is about belief and a high-level of aggressiveness in a one-off game to beat Mexico and to get to the Confederations Cup.

"It's a unique opportunity, and you have to embrace it and give everything you have."

Sixteen players in the squad were part of Klinsmann's team that reached the round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup. One notable omission is Omar Gonzalez. The LA Galaxy defender has been a staple in central defense for the U.S. in recent years.
