Jurgen Klinsmann: United States lost because 'luck was not with us'

Jurgen Klinsmann bemoaned back luck as his United States team fell to a shock 2-1 defeat to Jamaica in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The defending champions were beaten in Atlanta and went behind to a Darren Mattocks strike in the 31st minute before Giles Barnes doubled Jamaica's lead from a free kick after goalkeeper Brad Guzan was adjudged to have handled the ball outside his own penalty area.

Michael Bradley got one back in the second half, but the U.S. could not make the most of their possession and chances as Jamaica sealed a place in the final.

"The team and fans are disappointed," Klinsmann told reporters. "We lost this game with two set pieces.

"We had enough chances to score four or five. We didn't do that and Jamaica won. Congrats to Jamaica, they performed well. Defensively Jamaica did a very good job.

"We had enough chances to put this game away. The luck was not with us, but we also were not clinical enough."

The U.S. will face Panama in the third-place playoff after the second semifinal saw Mexico advance 2-1 after two late penalties.

"We need to finish off in style Saturday in front of our fans," Klinsmann added. "Approaching that game the right way. We owe that to our fans."
