Sochaux v Brest: Preview

The Ligue 1 relegation zone could have a different look to it by the end of the weekend as two strugglers, Sochaux and Brest, prepare to square off.

Sochaux are third-bottom ahead of the game with Landry Chauvin's visitors, who are two points and as many places better off than their opponents.

Chauvin is anxious that his men put in a respectable performance, though, having been unhappy with how they showed up against Montpellier on Wednesday night.

They lost 2-1 at home to the reigning champions and, with the stakes high at the Stade Auguste Bonal, he does not want a repeat showing.

``We've now got a match on a knife edge at Sochaux on Saturday,'' he said.

``I hope we'll show other qualities, because if we don't, we're going to suffer a real disappointment.

``We saw the limits of the squad (against Montpellier), which worries me. We didn't show what we wanted to do, we hid.''

Sochaux's recent form has been mixed, with the Montbeliard side unable to build on their impressive away win at Ajaccio, apart from a couple of draws, albeit one of them coming against Lille.

Their last game saw them lose 2-0 at Lorient and coach Eric Hely is keen for them to turn their efforts into points.

``We lacked sharpness in the final third against Lorient, but I cannot fault the efforts of the players,'' he said.

``I have nothing to say about the players who gave their all. We just need to start taking our opportunities.''
