Uganda's Murushid Juuko confident he can silence Mbwana Samatta

Uganda defender Murushid Juuko is confident that he can silence Tanzania's Mbwana Samatta when the two sides clash in Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Juuko, who features for Tanzania Premier League champions Simba SC, is backing the Cranes to get Emmanuel Amunike's Taifa Stars reign off to a losing start at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

"We have more foreign based players than Tanzania, we have a better team," Juuko told KweséESPN, "and I will handle Samatta.

"I have played against many good forwards better than him," he added. "I know the ability of the Tanzanian team, but we are ready for them.

"We have prepared very well and we are ready."

Samatta was praised by Amunike ahead of the weekend's clash after his hat-trick helped Genk down Brondby 5-2 in a UEFA Europa League playoff first leg.

The 25-year-old will be the East Africans' key threat as they look to down Sebastien Desabre's side.

"We are working hard because this is the best time to return to the AFCON," added Uganda's Hassan Wasswa, another veteran of the Cranes' squad at the 2017 tournament in Gabon.

"We are not here on holiday, but to give our country the best, and we must get the three points on Saturday."

Striker Emmanuel Okwi also weighed in with the fighting talk: "We must score the goals that will give us maximum points at the Namboole Stadium," he began.

"We are hungry to go back to AFCON after qualifying last year," continued the forward. "I know Tanzania will be hungry to come and win because defeat would put them in a terrible situation."

Uganda Cranes lead Group L after their 1-0 away win in Cape Verde last year, while Tanzania and Lesotho drew 1-1 in their opener.
