Raja Casablanca sign Ugandan striker Shaban Muhammad

Moroccan Premier League side Raja Club Athletic Casablanca has signed Ugandan striker Muhammad Shaban on a three-year contract.

The 19-year-old, who was KCCA FC's top scorer with 18 goals last season, was unveiled on Wednesday.

"Ugandan Muhammad Shaban has signed a contract with Raja Club Athletic Casablanca," the club announced on their website on Wednesday.

The striker traveled to South Africa two weeks ago with KCCA FC's Chief Executive Officer Josephine Namukisa with a view to a move to Orlando Pirates, but the move unfortunately did not take place.

"I am glad that finally my prayer to become a professional player has been answered and it starts with Raja Casablanca," Shaban Muhammad told KweseESPN on Wednesday evening.

Raja Casablanca has a rich history of success both domestically and in continental competitions, having won the CAF Champions League three times (1989, 1997, 199), the CAF Confederation Cup once and the CAF Super Cup once. The have been crowned Moroccan Premier League champions 11 times.

"Selling players to bigger clubs is one of our objectives as a club and we are happy that Shaban Muhammad has also moved. Since players are assets we shall always make sure they move when the opportunity arises that benefits both parties," Aggrey Ashaba, the KCCA FC Chairman told KweseESPN.

"These kinds of moves give extra motivation to other players and creates an environment of serious competition in the Club. KCCA FC will never stop any player from a transfer for professional football if we think the deal is good for us and the player."

Shaban, who joined Uganda Premier League Champions KCCA FC last year from Arua-based Onduparaka FC, scored the lone goal against St. George that sent KCCA FC to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

He also netted the 3-2 away loss to Tunisia's Esperance in the Group stage of the Champions League last month. The hard-working striker, who was top scorer at the 2017 COSAFA U-20 Championship, was also part of the Uganda Cranes team at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
