Ancelotti hails Toni Kroos as 'perfect'

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti singled out newcomer Toni Kroos for praise after the reigning European champions defeated Sevilla 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday.

Kroos, who completed a 30 million-euro move from Bayern in July, looked just as sharp as the German international did in his previous match -- the World Cup final.

"Toni Kroos' performance was perfect," Ancelotti said. "He was quick and clear in everything he did."

The Super Cup provided a showcase for Real's new stars Kroos and James Rodriguez, and Ancelotti said their addition has only improved the team's mentality heading into the season.

"The new players showed their quality," the manager said. "We're more confident than we were this time last year -- and that's rubbed off on the team."

The Super Cup victory provided highlights for Real's old guard as well, particularly with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring both goals, the opener on a cross from Gareth Bale, who was playing in his hometown of Cardiff, Wales.

"I can't ask for anything more," Ronaldo said. "The team played well and I got a couple of goals. It's a great start to the season."
