Real Madrid's Marcelo hopes Cristiano Ronaldo returns for UEFA Super Cup

ESPN FC's Sid Lowe says that Cristiano Ronaldo's knee injury shouldn't be a worry to people in Madrid.

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo is hoping Cristiano Ronaldo will return to the team for the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla.

Ronaldo came off in the 25th minute of Portugal's 1-0 Euro 2016 final victory over France due to a left knee injury suffered when French midfielder Dimitri Payet crashed into his side during a ninth-minute challenge.

The former Manchester United man has already begun the rehabilitation process, though he is expected to miss all of his club's preseason programme this summer,...

Sevilla's competitive spirit pleases Unai Emery despite Super Cup loss

Sevilla manager Unai Emery was full of praise for his team despite their 5-4, extra-time loss to Barcelona in Tbilisi on Tuesday evening.

Pedro's goal gave Barca the win in extra time, which was only necessary after the reigning Europa League champions rallied from 4-1 down to level the score at 4-4 and force an extra 30 minutes -- a fight back that the Sevilla boss was "very proud" of.

"If there's one thing we want to make this team, it is competitive," Emery said after the match.

Barcelona shed summer fatigue to win UEFA Super Cup in impressive fashion

There were nine goals and almost twice as many conclusions to be drawn from this match which gave FC Barcelona their fourth title in less than three months.

The first is that no one -- not the most rabid Barça fan, not Xavi sitting in Qatar and not Pep Guardiola in deepest, darkest Bavaria -- will have taken more pleasure from how this herculean match unfolded than Athletic Bilbao, their coach Ernesto Valverde and the Basque players who lost the Copa del Rey final to the Spanish and European champions...

Luis Enrique plans to examine how Barcelona wasted three-goal lead

Luis Enrique was pleased with Barcelona's UEFA Super Cup victory but said he would have to examine how his side let Sevilla erase a three-goal lead to equalise.

Pedro's goal gave Barcelona the win in extra time, which was only necessary after Sevilla rallied from 4-1 down to level the score at 4-4 and force an extra 30 minutes.

The Barcelona manger credited Sevilla's resolve but said his side would look at how they wasted such a large advantage in the second half.

Lionel Messi says free kick goals in UEFA Super Cup were 'lucky'

Lionel Messi called his pair of free kick goals in the UEFA Super Cup "lucky" as he guided Barcelona to a 5-4, extra-time victory over Sevilla on Tuesday.

Messi placed the ball in the corner in the seventh and 15th minutes to go level with Cristiano Ronaldo for the most goals in all UEFA club competitions with 80.

The game marked the first time in Messi's illustrious career that he scored twice from free kicks, but the Argentine remained humble after the game.

"I've just been lucky enough to score...
