Denmark open U21 Euros with win over Czech hosts, Germany and Serbia draw

Pione Sisto is congratulated by his teammates as Denmark beat Czech Republic.

Denmark fought back from a goal down to beat tournament hosts the Czech Republic 2-1 in the opening game of the European U21 Championship.

New Hoffenheim signing Pavel Kaderabek put the home side ahead in the 35th minute after cutting in from the right wing, firing into the bottom left corner to leave Danish keeper Jakob Busk with no chance.

The Danes, however, began the second half with more intent and were rewarded just prior to the hour mark when captain Jannik Vestergaard was able to nod in Jonas Knudsen's cross for the equaliser.

Pione Sisto poked home his goal from close range in the 84th minute, handing Denmark all three points.

In Group A's other match, 10-man Germany walked away with a share of the points after a 1-1 draw with Serbia.

Filip Djuricic's goal shocked the tournament favourites in the eighth minute, breaking through the German defence with deft piece of skill before sliding his shot past Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

However the lead didn't last long as Liverpool's Emre Can responded with a strike from outside the 18-yard box.

Germany defender Christian Gunter received his second yellow card for an innocuous challenge 25 minutes after the restart, however Serbia were not able to make the most of their one-man advantage as the match ended level.
