Borussia Dortmund fans bid emotional farewell to Marc Bartra

Borussia Dortmund fans gave Marc Bartra an emotional farewell before Thursday's UEFA Europa League tie against Salzburg in the round of 16.

Bartra, 27, joined Primera Division outfit Real Betis in January for a chance to make Spain's World Cup squad after falling down the pecking order under interim Dortmund coach Peter Stoger, who replaced the unsuccessful Peter Bosz in December 2017.

The centre-back joined the Ruhr side from Barcelona for an 18-month stint in 2016, making 49 appearances. He became an instant fan favourite and quickly identified with the Black and Yellows.

On Thursday, he was back at the Westfalenstadion to bid farewell to the Yellow Wall as the fans sang "We are all Dortmund Boys."

Bartra was severely injured on his hand and arm in the bombing of the Dortmund team bus ahead of an April 2017 Champions League quarterfinal tie with Monaco.

Bartra was in the team when Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 to lift the DFB Cup just over a month after the bombing.
