St Etienne took Manchester United tickets off sale after 'historic interest'

St Etienne temporarily suspended ticket sales for their Europa League round of 32 tie with Manchester United as an "historic" number of fans flocked to snap up seats.

Season ticket holders at the Ligue 1 club have until Dec. 23 to buy up to four extra tickets each for the second leg tie at the 42,000 capacity Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Feb. 22, which could see brothers Florentin and Paul Pogba line up on opposite sides.

With waiting times of up to three hours after the tickets went on sale on Thursday, the club announced it was ending sales at 3 p.m. CET, reopening ticket booths on Friday morning at 9:15 a.m. CET.

"The Saint-Etienne ticket office has seen an historic interest this Thursday when tickets for the game against Manchester United went on sale," a statement on the club's official website read.

"Given the number of fans present at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard and the waiting time, the club has decided to suspend sales today."

The first leg will be played at Old Trafford on Feb. 16.
