Fenerbahce urge fans to behave for Manchester United game

Fenerbahce have made a public appeal to supporters to avoid misbehaving during Thursday's Europa League fixture against Manchester United in Istanbul.

UEFA has deemed the match "high profile" and appointed a security delegate, and both United and the UK government have issued safety advice to United fans travelling to Turkey for the match, including avoiding public transport, travelling alone or wearing club colours.

Fenerbahce have now asked fans to avoid any behaviour that could lead to "significant financial and spiritual damage for our club" in a statement on the club's official website.

Fans are asked to avoid carrying change, using pyrotechnics, throwing objects, entering the field of play or making political statements.

The statement added: "In case of any provocative manner from the opponent keep calm and only support our team.

"It should not be forgotten that, any incident that could occur against to spirit of sport will cause such a significant financial and spiritual damage for our club.

"We kindly ask to our fans to show sensitivity of the issue and just support to our team."

Fenerbahce had issued a similar statement in July ahead of the Champions League playoff match at home to Monaco.

United were famously given a hostile welcome to Turkey in 1993 when they visited Galatasaray.
