LONDON -- Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels is wary of the threat posed by Harry Kane on Thursday after watching the Tottenham striker sink Aston Villa.
Dortmund face Spurs in the Europa League round-of-16 second leg at White Hart Lane on Thursday, trailing 3-0 from the first leg at Westfalenstadion.
Kane did not start the match in Germany, as Mauricio Pochettino made seven changes, and Spurs were beaten by a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang goal and two more from Marco Reus.
The England striker returned to the starting lineup for Sunday's win at Villa Park, scoring a brilliant brace, and centre-back Hummels is aware of his threat.
"Of course, he is a big threat. I saw him score two goals on Sunday against Aston Villa," Hummels told a news conference. "We know what a good striker he is. If he is on the pitch, you give him a certain amount of defensive concentration -- you focus a little more on him.
"In the whole team, in the offence, they have some pretty nice players. So in the end it doesn't matter who plays. It's not that we can chill if he doesn't play because we still have to work on our defence."
On the first leg, Hummels said: "It was an outstanding result. You couldn't wish for much more in that situation -- we came away with a clear result and a clean sheet.
"Obviously we have to aware that it's not all done and dusted. We want to score early on if we can to put the game beyond doubt. At the same time, we know Spurs have quality in their team and they're at home -- teams often perform differently when they're at home.
"We know we're not through to the quarterfinals yet but we'll work hard to achieve that and we know we're in with a great chance."
Like Spurs, Dortmund are second in their league, trailing the leaders by five points and eyeing the domestic title, but Hummels insisted the club is not prioritising either the Bundesliga or Europa League.
"I don't think I have to set a priority to one of the comps. We try to win every comp we're in -- both comps are a big chance right now because we're five points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. We try to win every game for us.
"Of course, the Europa League is a very big chance to win a title this year so we don't put one competition higher than the other one. We try to win them all."
Aubameyang's precise header in Dortmund was his 33rd goal of the season and Hummels praised the quality of the Gabonese forward.
"He works for us and we work for him to score. That's the biggest change we made in this team and it's worked out really well this season. He has plenty of qualities.
"Of course the most obvious one is his incredible speed. He's one of the fastest players I've ever played against or with, so he's really a good striker."
