Jordan Henderson: Liverpool must raise tempo vs. Augsburg at Anfield

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson says they must be better going forward if they are to keep their Europa League hopes alive against Augsburg next week.

Henderson felt Liverpool were capable of better after they shared a 0-0 draw at the Bundesliga side in Thursday's round-of-32 first leg.

Daniel Sturridge failed to connect properly with a cross early in the second half and the visitors struggled for fluency -- and could even have left the WWK Arena with a deficit to make up at Anfield had Ji Dong-Won found the net rather than the post five minutes from time.

"We didn't play as well as we could have," Henderson told Liverpool's official website. "We created a few chances where we should be be scoring, so overall we're a little bit disappointed but we've got another game to put it right.

"They hit the post and we had a few chances so it was pretty even in that sense. Like I said, I think we can play a lot better than that, especially in the final third, keeping the ball a little bit better and moving it too slow at times. We need to make sure that we put that right in the next game.

"In the first half we played too slow from the back, weren't playing behind their line enough so we tried that a little bit more in the second half and it worked, we had good moments but that's not enough."

Henderson agreed with manager Jurgen Klopp's observation that Liverpool lack consistency both between games and during them. The rhythm that had characterised the 6-0 Premier League win at Aston Villa four days earlier was absent in Germany.

"We need to do it more consistently throughout the game and if we do that then we'll win the game," Henderson said of the second leg.

"I'm sure the fans will be brilliant for us once again and we need to do the business at home."
