Liverpool players asked Emre Can where Augsburg is located

Emre Can has revealed that several of his Liverpool teammates have asked him where Augsburg is located ahead of the first leg of the teams' Europa League clash on Thursday.

However, the Germany international stressed that the Liverpool players are not underestimating the Bundesliga side as they seek to book their place in the round of 16.

On Wednesday, Jurgen Klopp's side travel to Augsburg, a university city with 280,000 inhabitants based in Bavaria in the south of Germany.

FC Augsburg were founded over 100 years ago, but they did not play in the Bundesliga until 2011 and are enjoying their maiden European campaign after finishing fifth last season.

"To be honest, a number of teammates have asked me where Augsburg is located," former Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Can told Sport Bild.

However, he added: "Regarding FC Augsburg, we all know that they are strong as a team. Jurgen Klopp and I have played against them often enough. They have not made it that far in the Europa League by sheer luck."

Liverpool are five-time European champions and won the UEFA Cup three times, and Can is hoping they can add this season's Europa League to their trophy cabinet.

"Our target in every competition is to win it," he said.

Augsburg, whose website crashed after the Liverpool draw was announced, have endured a difficult season in the Bundesliga, with Markus Weinzierl's side just one point above the relegation playoff spot after failing to win a game in 2016.

However, Augsburg -- whose key midfielder Daniel Baier is expected to miss out with an ankle injury -- hope to cause an upset.

"Those will be two wicked games, for me, for the team and for all of Augsburg," forward Raul Bobadilla told Sport Bild. "We've got every chance. Liverpool are not as strong they were a few years ago. We can hurt them."

Bobadilla scored six goals in the group stage, including a decisive effort in the 89th minute of the final group game against Partizan Belgrade, and is in confident mood ahead of Liverpool's visit.

"We can reach the next round," he added. "We've got a 50-50 chance."
