Augsburg on Europa tie vs. Liverpool: We beat Klopp 1-0 last time we met

Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl has voiced his excitement after the club were drawn against Liverpool in the Europa League, stating that anticipation for the tie is "sky-high."

The Bundesliga outfit will meet Liverpool in the round of 32 following Monday's draw, having finished second in Group L behind Athletic Bilbao.

But while the Reds will be favourites against a team sitting 13th in Germany's top flight, Weinzierl says everybody at the club is eagerly awaiting the games against Jurgen Klopp's side.

"Anticipation for the Liverpool clash is sky-high. Everyone's delighted, everyone cheered," he told reporters. "We are happy with the draw. We will be outsiders but we gladly accept that role.

"We have courage and confidence. Jurgen Klopp knows us, he will not underestimate us. We will give our all to achieve a sensational result. This match is something special. Liverpool are a cult club, Jurgen's got a big name in Germany. I am delighted for everyone at the club."

The Augsburg Twitter account was unable to hide its excitement at the draw, labelling the tie as "awesome" and "madness."

The first leg of the tie takes place on Feb. 18 at the WWK ARENA, with the return game at Anfield on Feb. 25.

"Anfield is football history," Augsburg captain Paul Verhaegh said. "We wanted that and it's just super. We've shown in the past that we can surprise. We want to do that against Liverpool."

Liverpool and Augsburg have never met before, although the German side did defeat Klopp's Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga last season.

Augsburg sporting executive Stefan Reuter added: "It's sensational for us -- for our fans, for everyone at the club this is a real highlight. I've seen a very strong Liverpool in recent weeks. They've got great quality -- in [Roberto] Firmino and Emre Can they have two players who know the Bundesliga.

"We've won our last match against Klopp 1-0. We take that as a good omen. We have an experienced team and playing Liverpool is something very special. It'll be a highlight to play at Anfield."
