Bonucci nets late Juventus winner
Leonardo Bonucci gave Juventus a 1-0 quarterfinal first-leg victory away to Lyon as the Europa League favourites edged a tight tussle in France.
The encounter at the Stade de Gerland looked to be heading for a draw before the Italian defender pounced on a loose ball in the area to leave his side in command.
The victory means the Serie A club remain on course to reach the final held at their own Juventus Stadium, while Lyon, who suffered their first defeat at home in the competition since the group stages, need to overturn the result in next week's return leg in Turin.
Two goals from Matias Delgado helped Basel put one foot in the last four as they beat Valencia 3-0 in their opening leg in Switzerland.
Murat Yakin's side, who were semifinalists last season, took control of proceedings with Delgado's first-half double, before Valentin Stocker's late addition secured a win which leaves Valencia with everything to do in next week's return fixture.
The match at St Jakob-Park was played behind closed doors as a result of the trouble among Basel fans which caused the second leg of their 2-1 aggregate victory over Salzburg in the last round to be suspended for 13 minutes.
Eduardo Salvio scored the only goal as Benfica claimed a 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in their first leg in the Netherlands.
The home side had the better of the first half but Benfica goalkeeper Artur kept them at bay and they were punished when Salvio netted just after half-time.
The Portuguese side were better after the break and will take a deserved one-goal lead and a potentially crucial away goal to the Estadio da Luz next week.
Porto survived the late dismissal of midfielder Fernando to ride out a 1-0 victory over Sevilla and take a big step towards reaching the semifinals.
Two clubs famous for their attacking brands of football struggled to entertain at the Estadio do Dragao and the hosts needed a first-half diving header from defender Elaquim Mangala to edge the first leg.
Sevilla -- UEFA Cup winners in 2006 and 2007 -- were under par and could not put a move together to grab the away goal in the minutes that remained after Fernando saw red for arguing with the referee.
