Maritimo going all out for victory - Guilherme

Neither Maritimo nor Club Brugge have any chance of reaching the knockout stages of the Europa League, but defender Joao Guilherme says the Portuguese side will go all out for the win.

Three draws and two defeats have left Maritimo at the foot of the Group D table, while their opponents have just a point more, with Bordeaux and Newcastle easing through to the last 32.

And Guilherme is desperate for his side to register a European win to give their home fans something to cheer about.

``The team has left a good image (in the competition) and we want to win,'' he told reporters.

``We are just focused on this game.''

``We tried (to qualify), but we were aware that this would be a very difficult group. We fight against all the teams, which are considered very strong.

``I believe that the effort given by Maritimo was good and now we want to close this competition with a flourish.

``Of course we know that victory is good in sporting terms, but in financial terms it is also good, because it's always some money coming into the club.

``But nothing was said to us about this matter. Nothing about financial matters was discussed. We talked about other matters directed to the sports part, as usual. ''

Maritimo's domestic campaign has been far from successful so far and Pedro Martins' side find themselves 13th in the Liga table, without a win in their last four matches.

Their opponent's morale is likely to be similarly low, however. Brugge currently sit sixth in the Jupiler League table, while there have been reports of unrest after it was revealed that both Vadis Odjidja and Ryan Donk turned up late for training.

Trio Carlos Bacca, Bart Buysse and Jim Larsen will also miss the clash.
