Salin wary of Bordeaux
French goalkeeper Romain Salin has warned his Maritimo team-mates against taking Europa League Group D opponents Bordeaux lightly ahead of the meeting at the Stade Chaban Delmas.
Salin, who missed his side's 5-0 defeat to Porto through suspension, believes his Brazilian colleagues at Maritimo do not rate Ligue 1 teams.
``They see no French team made significant results in the European Cup. They assume that it is a bad league,'' Salin told www.girondins.com.
The 1-1 draw in Portugal when the two sides met in an earlier group clash opened a few eyes.
``My team-mates knew nothing of Bordeaux and they were a little surprised. They saw that there was a good team and as individuals Yoan Gouffran is a good player.''
``We must show solidarity to cope with the Girondins. This is a very important game for us.''
Bordeaux left-back Benedict Tremoulinas hopes they will build on the Ligue 1 derby victory over Toulouse by taking three points against Maritimo.
Bordeaux are currently second in Group D on four points, three behind leaders Newcastle, one clear of Club Brugge and two above Maritimo.
``We really need to take all three points. It is important for European qualification,'' he said.
``I expect it will be an open game. There are a lot of South Americans in the Maritimo team. This will certainly present scoring opportunities on both sides.''
Tremoulinas is wary of the effects of playing Europa League games in between Ligue 1 fixtures but is happy with his form and fitness.
``For the moment, I'm happy with my performance. It is a good omen for the future. I feel good, I'm not injured and touch wood that continues,'' he said.
