Liverpool 'already out' of Champions League if they think about difficult draw - Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are "already out" of the Champions League if they think about the difficulty of their group before a ball has even been kicked.

Last season's finalists were drawn in Group C with Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Serbian side Red Star Belgrade.

Klopp was asked by the club's official website whether it was fair to suggest no team was looking forward to seeing Liverpool drawn from Pot 3 against them on Thursday.

"For sure," the Reds boss said. "When you have already a group with Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli -- two absolutely top teams -- then you don't want to have Liverpool as the third team!

"'It is how it is' is the best way to describe it; don't think too much about it. If you think about the group, you are already out. If you think it is too difficult, you are already out. We don't think either.

"We will play the games, we will be competitive -- that's what we have to make sure -- and that is all."

With Liverpool now aware of their group-stage opponents, Klopp says preparations for the games -- which will begin next month -- can now get underway.

Liverpool encountered Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli recently, beating them 5-0 in a preseason friendly in Dublin earlier this month.

Klopp also took his Borussia Dortmund side to the Stadio San Paolo back in 2013 and ended up receiving a one-match touchline ban for berating the fourth official.

"To be 100 percent honest, it was not that I had a group I wished for or whatever," he continued. "I expected a difficult group, we have a difficult group and that's what the Champions League is all about.

"PSG are one of the most exciting teams in the world and I think their target is to win the Champions League, so that will be two interesting matches. Napoli, we beat them in preseason but it goes without saying these two games will be completely a different challenge.

"I've been to Napoli with Dortmund, so I know what the atmosphere is like there. In fact, it's where I got a suspension [for being sent off]. I can do better, obviously!

"Red Star, I watched them last night. They came through and it will be, again, a very, very intense atmosphere I am sure.

"But that's how it is, it's the group and I am fine with that. Now let's go."

Liverpool defied the odds last term to reach the final of Europe's premier club competition, taking down Manchester City, Roma and Porto en route to Kiev -- where they were ultimately beaten by Real Madrid.

"Yes, but last season is last season and now we have to do it again," Klopp added. "That's normal. All the teams have to do it again.

"We want to go through the group. It will be difficult but still we want to go through. That's the plan, so now let's start working on it."
