ESPN International renews deal for Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup rights

ESPN International has retained the broadcast rights to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Europe League in Spanish-speaking Latin America until the 2020-21 seasons, the company said on Thursday.

The deal, which begins in the 2018-19 season, also includes all multimedia rights for the regions. Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

"We are thrilled to announce this new agreement with UEFA. The renewal reflects our steadfast commitment to deliver world-class content to fans across Latin America," said ESPN International's senior vice president of programming and production Tim Bunnell.

"We have a long history as a UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League broadcaster. These competitions are the most prestigious club soccer events in the world, and we are eager to continue to build on the success we have had over the years in presenting these tournaments to our viewers."

ESPN will broadcast 71 Champions League matches per season under the new agreement, with 66 matches from the final playoff round to the quarterfinals broadcast exclusively on the network and pay TV.

In addition to the Champions League, ESPN will also carry 103 UEFA Europa League matches per season as well as all UEFA Super Cups, with the 2018 edition in Tallinn, Estonia on August 15 set to kick off the new deal.
