Roma won't park bus at Barcelona like Jose Mourinho would - Di Francesco

Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco says he will not adopt an ultra-defensive approach at Barcelona next week, insisting such tactics, which were used successfully by Jose Mourinho in 2010, are not in his armoury.

The Giallorossi are viewed as underdogs in their Champions League quarterfinal clash, but after finishing ahead of Chelsea and Atletico Madrid in the group stage and ousting Shakhtar Donetsk in the round of 16, Di Francesco insists his side are going to give Barca a game.

When asked if he could attempt what Mourinho successfully achieved with Inter Milan in 2010, when the Nerazzurri successfully defended a 3-1 win from the first leg of their Champions League semifinal by losing just 1-0 in Spain, Di Francesco said it was unlikely.

"I don't think I've got this tactical attitude to face Barcelona in that way," he told Sky Sport Italia. "I think we must not lose our own identity and not sit back much. My idea is not to play a game in which we just wait for them, trying to stay in their half as much as we can.

"We've got to play this game with great respect for our opponents, but without any fear -- that is something we need to keep at a distance."

Di Francesco nevertheless acknowledged that Barca are going to be hard to stop, but insists his side must enjoy the occasion.

"The fact we've never got this far in previous years means we've achieved something important, and the chance to go even further gives us great satisfaction," Di Francesco said. "What I say to my lads and the whole club environment is that we must not settle for what we've got.

"In any case, we're not only focusing on stopping [Lionel] Messi, who I feel is the best player in the world, but stopping the whole of this Barcelona team. This is the most important thing. Man-marking doesn't exist, in my opinion, although we are going to have to pay him particular attention."

Roma travel to Camp Nou on April 4, before hosting Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico the following Tuesday.

Roma are in the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time since 2008, when they were beaten 3-0 on aggregate by eventual champions Manchester United.
