Felix Brych chosen to referee Champions League final in Cardiff

German referee Felix Brych will take charge of the Champions League final between Juventus and Real Madrid in Cardiff, UEFA has announced.

Brych, 41, refereed the 2014 Europa League final, won by Sevilla, and becomes the ninth German to referee a European Cup or Champions League final.

He has officiated five times in this season's Champions League and been involved in 24 matches in all German domestic competitions, 17 of those coming in the Bundesliga.

Brych made his German top flight debut in August 2004 and has averaged 4.76 yellow cards per Bundesliga match.

He and his assistants were criticised after last weekend's match between Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim, in which two key offside decisions were called wrongly and a contentious penalty given to BVB while a clear one for their opponents was missed.

Information from ESPN FC's Germany correspondent Stephan Uersfeld was used in this report.
