Arsenal's Arsene Wenger: Paris Saint-Germain have schedule advantage

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said Paris Saint-Germain's easier league schedule could give them an edge in Wednesday's Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners host PSG four days after playing a Premier League game at title rivals Manchester United, while the French champions enjoyed a fairly comfortable win over Nantes on Saturday.

"Paris have an advantage, they can manage their games," Wenger told a news conference. "They played against Nantes. They played at 80 percent, 90 percent. We played at Man United. We had no room for even one percent.

"Before, the Champions League game was the game that you had to prepare for. Today, the Premier League is the game that you have to prepare, because everywhere you go you can lose.

"The difference in the Champions League is that the teams play offensively, all of them."

Arsenal can clinch first place in Group A with a win on Wednesday, but a draw would be enough to keep PSG behind them on goal difference with one game remaining. Both teams have already clinched a spot in the knockout stages.

Having been knocked out in the round of 16 for six years running, Wenger stressed the importance of winning the group, saying: "I feel guilty when we finish second and we have a difficult tie, so let's finish first. At least we'll have the advantage to play the second game at home.

"We play at home against a big team, we want to win. We are a bit stuttering recently because we played Tottenham, we were 1-0 up and we didn't win the game. We have to show that we can do that.

"We want to show that we can beat any style of team. That's what we have done since the start of the season, and tomorrow we play a different style, a team who plays with possession, slow and quick."

English teams have struggled to assert themselves in the Champions League in recent seasons, but with Manchester City having already beaten Barcelona at home in the group stage, Wenger said an Arsenal victory would be further proof that Premier League sides are catching up.

But he singled out defending champions Real Madrid as the team to beat this year, saying: "I watched Real Madrid on Saturday night, and I was impressed by them against Atletico Madrid.

"They look, at the moment, to be the most dangerous side."
