Unai Emery: Paris Saint-Germain have improved since Arsenal draw

Unai Emery has told The Guardian his Paris Saint-Germain side are "a better team" than when they faced Arsenal in September but expects "similar intensity" in the return clash at the Emirates Stadium this week.

The pair played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at Parc des Princes in their opening Group A clash and the winner of Wednesday's encounter at Emirates Stadium is likely to go on and advance to the latter stages in top spot.

Emery said this week's game "is going to be different simply because they play at home" but anticipated a similarly full-blooded affair.

"It is a game with big actors, great football players, this is the beauty of it," the Spaniard said. "We played a good first game and we could have won it. There are things that we will change from then, mainly because we are a better team now. What [PSG will change] I am not going to tell you."

PSG missed a number of good chances in September's game and Edinson Cavani was particularly wasteful.

The form of Emery's men has improved since, though, and the three-time Europa League winner with Sevilla identified "the everyday job of confidence" as the key for the in-form Uruguay international and his teammates.

"You need to prepare your players and get them in the best condition -- physically, technically, tactically and mentally -- to get the best out of them," the Basque said. "At times it works well, at times it does not.

"Cavani can score one day and then not. The best recipe is being consistent. It is about sticking to your ideas. When they praise you, follow the idea, when they criticise you, follow the idea. It is my best advice."

Emery also spoke positively of the roles his multiple assistants have played in the team's upturn in form across all competitions, singling out their painstaking attention to detail in analysis as an influential factor.

"I have three assistants working with me, they are my eyes too," Emery said. "I watch the game three or four times usually, there is so much you miss when you are pitch side. The others watch the game as many times and then we do the analysis together. That makes perhaps 12 times."

Emery's PSG are expected to be without Layvin Kurzawa and Javier Pastore for the trip to London to face the Gunners but Angel Di Maria and Alphonse Areola should be fit for the clash.
