Igor Akinfeev denied first Champions League clean sheet in 40 games

CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev's decade-long wait for a Champions League clean sheet went on as Bernardo Silva scored a late equaliser for Monaco to earn the French side a 1-1 draw.

Akinfeev, 30, was looking to keep a first Champions League clean sheet in some 40 matches and looked to be on course until Silva struck late on.

The Russian goalkeeper was hailed as "outstanding" by Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim, who was delighted to snatch an unexpected point.

"This draw feels like a win," he said. "We were a bit predictable up until they scored, but then we changed the way we played.

"The CSKA goalkeeper was outstanding. He saved certain goals on two or three occasions."

Lacina Traore, on loan from Monaco to CSKA had put the Russian champions ahead in the 34th minute and they looked good for the win as Akinfeev saved from Andrea Raggi, Benjamin Mendy and Guido Carrillo before Silva struck in the 87th minute.

Akinfeev's unfortunate run dates back to Nov. 1, 2006 when he shut out Arsenal in a goalless draw. CSKA themselves have not kept a clean sheet in 22 Champions League matches since Nov. 2, 2011.
