PSG's Thiago Silva tips goalkeeper Alphonse Areola for France place

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has said he believes teammate Alphonse Areola will go on to become France's next goalkeeper.

Areola, who saved a second-half penalty in the 3-1 Champions League win at Ludogorets Razgrad on Wednesday, is in the France squad for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Netherlands.

Coach Didier Deschamps said the 23-year-old had "been very efficient with PSG," while Silva said he gave his teammates confidence.

"Alphonse is a young goalkeeper and he plays very well with the ball at his feet," Silva told journalists after the win in Bulgaria.

"I have nothing negative to say about his ability with his hands either. I hope that he will continue like this, because he will be the next France national team goalkeeper."

Areola has recently broken into PSG boss Unai Emery's starting XI and is keeping German stopper Kevin Trapp out.

The former France under-21 international said the Ludogorets win had been a "collective success."

"It is good for the squad's confidence. The most important thing is that it was a team effort," he added. "I made my small contribution and I must keep doing that."

Speaking about the penalty save, he said: "Did I know where he was going? These are things that I prefer to keep between the goalkeeping coach and I.

"I came out at the right moment and we went and scored. It was important.

"It is up to me to continue working as I have done lately. I still need to work hard in order to perform well."
