Thomas Muller on Bayern Munich bench against Atletico Madrid

Thomas Muller will start from the bench as Bayern Munich face Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Champions League semifinal first leg on Wednesday.

Muller, who scored in Bayern's 2-2 quarterfinal second-leg draw against Benfica, is one of three changes from Pep Guardiola's starting lineup that night in Portugal.

The Germany international has scored 31 goals in 44 games for Bayern in all competitions this season, including eight in 10 Champions League matches.

Juan Bernat has come in for Joshua Kimmich, and Kingsley Coman takes Franck Ribery's place, while Robert Lewandowski returns to lead the line after starting on the bench against Benfica.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid made three changes to the lineup that beat Barcelona 2-0 in their quarterfinal second leg tie, introducing Jose Gimenez and Stefan Savic to the centre of defence for the injured Diego Godin and Lucas Hernandez, while striker Fernando Torres returns from suspension.

Uruguay centre-back Godin suffered what the club have labelled a "grade I-II" thigh muscle injury during the 1-0 win at Athletic Bilbao last Wednesday night.

The problem ruled Godin out of Saturday's 1-0 La Liga home defeat against Malaga as well as Wednesday's Bayern clash.
