Pep Guardiola: Bayern Munich have more players missing than Benfica

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola says his side have "bigger problems" than Benfica when it comes to the amound of players they have missing for their Champions League quarterfinal second leg.

The two clubs meet in Lisbon on Wednesday night with Bayern leading 1-0 on aggregate following Arturo Vidal's winner at the Allianz Arena last week.

Benfica will be without Jonas through suspension, while Nicolas Gaitan and Lisandro Lopez are both doubts, with Luisao only returning to the squad at the weekend following a spell out with a broken arm.

Bayern, meanwhile, will be without a trio of defenders in Jerome Boateng, Holger Badstuber and Mehdi Benatia, as well as forward Arjen Robben.

"We have had even more problems with players missing games," Guardiola told a news conference when asked about the impact the loss of Jonas will have on Benfica's chances.

"We played last month's important matches without [key] central defenders. When we talk about the situations of the teams, then we have had bigger problems."

Despite scoring an early goal through Vidal in the first leg, Bayern struggled to break Benfica down for much of the game.

Guardiola, however, says his side now know how best to overcome the Portuguese Liga leaders.

"We know Benfica better after the first game," Guardiola said. "We know what we have to do and how we have to play [to beat them]. We have to defend well and when we have the ball, we have to create chances. If we score a goal, we'll take a big step towards the semifinals.

"I have always said the result is the most important thing. Of course, attitude and mentality too. If you don't play well, it's not possible to achieve good results in the Champions League."
