Wolfsburg 'not through yet' vs. Gent in Champions League - Dieter Hecking

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking is being cautious as his side look to make club history by overcoming Gent in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Wolfsburg recorded a 3-2 win at Gent in the first leg three weeks ago, and they could qualify for the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in the club's history.

The Germans have revived their domestic campaign with two consecutive wins last week. First beating strugglers Hannover 4-0 on the road, and on Saturday picking up all three points in their home match against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Speaking to reporters in Wolfsburg on Monday, Hecking said: "I said that we would need two good days if we were to progress to the quarterfinals. Our initial situation is good, but we are not through yet."

Wolfsburg won all three home matches during the group stage, and are favourites to come out on top in their meeting with the Belgians, who "have qualities and will seek their chance."

Hecking added: "We've got a new task tomorrow, and we want to face it and not look back on what has been. It's a new game, and we can't rest. My team can indeed get cocky, also tomorrow. But that can also be positive."

The Wolfsburg coach hinted that he might rest a few players, and "introduce fresh legs in one or two positions," but it's unlikely that he will rest in-form Germany international Julian Draxler, who is finding his feet at his new club.

"He's no longer insecure, I am absolutely satisfied with his progress," Hecking said.
