Gladbach coach and Jurgen Klopp swap ideas ahead of Man City clash

Borussia Monchengladbach coach Andre Schubert revealed that he has been in touch with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as his side prepare to visit Manchester City in the Champions League.

Klopp won 4-1 at City in the Premier League last month with his new club, and Schubert told German tabloid Bild he had an exchange with the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

"We texted," Schubert -- who shares an agent with Klopp -- said. "We've swapped ideas."

The Gladbach boss said he had no grudge against City, who beat his side 2-1 in September thanks to a late Sergio Aguero penalty.

That remains the only loss the Foals have suffered under Schubert, who took charge in the same month.

But he told his prematch news conference: "I don't have a score to settle with City because of that. It's all about the three points so we can continue to play in Europe."

Gladbach can ensure a place in the Europa League with a win at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, and can also do so if Sevilla fail to better their result when they take on Juventus.

"We have our fingers crossed for Juventus, too," Schubert said, adding that his side would take the game to City in an attempt to beat them and ensure they do not have to rely on events elsewhere.

He has steered Gladbach from bottom of the Bundesliga to third place, and on Saturday saw them end Bayern Munich's unbeaten league record with a 3-1 win.

The club's sporting director Max Eberl said he was looking forward to the challenge at City, adding: "This will be a match on a similar level to the one against Bayern.

"We wanted to compete with the big clubs, and we'll give it our all one more time."
