Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez backed after blunder at Barcelona

Bayer Leverkusen sporting executive Rudi Voller defended striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez after his miss in the 2-1 Champions League defeat at Barcelona on Wednesday.

Leverkusen took a first-half lead at the Camp Nou, and could have doubled that advantage when former Manchester United striker Hernandez blazed over with only keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to beat.

And he was made to pay when late goals from Sergi Roberto and Luis Suarez secured the points for the home side.

Barcelona's official Twitter feed coverage of the game said: "Chicharito has a wide open shot at point-blank range but sends it to the moon!"

But speaking to Bild, Voller said: "When you have chances to score, you need to score at some point -- and I am not only referring to Chicharito.

"We had amazing chances in the first half, too. That's the unbelievable thing about it. Sadly, we only managed one goal."

Since moving to Leverkusen in the summer, Hernandez has scored two goals in six games in all competitions.
