Man City may get complacent vs. Borussia Monchengladbach - Xhaka

Borussia Monchengladbach captain Granit Xhaka is hopeful of a Champions League upset against Manchester City as he feels the Premier League club may suffer from complacency when they meet on Wednesday.

The Foals got their maiden Champions League campaign off to a bad start earlier this month when they went down 3-0 at Sevilla.

On Wednesday, the Bundesliga club host City, who lost 2-1 to Juventus a fortnight ago, and Xhaka, who was suspended in Seville, fancies his side's chances.

"We should just relish the match against an outstanding team, but we shall not fear Man City," Xhaka told kicker.

"We need to be bold, attack high, and pressure the opponent. Maybe they underestimate us and believe they can beat us at 80 or 90 percent.

"To be honest, I don't even know whether at Manchester City they know Borussia Monchengladbach or the players that well."

Despite City's recent slump in form, having lost three of their last four games, Xhaka says he rates Manuel Pellegrini's side very highly.

"Let's face reality: there is a lot of money in that team and it's full of superstars, and to me they are the favourites to win the Champions League," he said. "They also had a bad start and they have to take the points back home."

Monchengladbach not only suffered a defeat at Sevilla but also lost five consecutive games in the Bundesliga.

They have started to turn around their season, however, with two straight league wins under new caretaker coach Andre Schubert, who replaced Lucien Favre following his resignation.

"We would have loved to keep him," Xhaka, who has scored in both of the last two league games, said of Favre.

When asked about the club's ambitions in the Champions League, Xhaka said that they want to achieve their goal of "finishing third in the group at least."
