Real Madrid want Bernabeu fan flash mob for Atletico Champions League tie

Real Madrid have called on their supporters to come together for a "Whites Flash Mob" at the Bernabeu ahead of Wednesday's Champions League quarterfinal second leg against neighbours Atletico Madrid.

The tie is finely balanced after last week's goalless first leg across town at Atletico's Calderon, and Real's chances have since been hit by injuries to Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

Los Blancos have reacted by asking their supporters to be at the stadium for 18.30 local time -- two hours and 15 minutes before kickoff -- and AS says that around 10,000 Real fans will cheer the team bus as it arrives with the players.

An official club statement announced the rallying call, saying that seeing a sea of white shirts outside the stadium would boost Real's players ahead of such a crucial game.

"The Real Madrid faithful will again play a crucial role on a huge European night," the statement read. "The Whites' fans will once more show their unconditional support for their side before the match against Atletico, and are to meet in the Plaza de los Sagrados Corazones from 6.30 p.m. CEST.

"The supporters' white shirts will be key to giving our players their first boost as they arrive at the stadium. The squad will not be taking their usual route from Ciudad Real Madrid, and will come down Calle Concha Espina from Calle Serrano.

"When the team reach the Plaza, the Quedada Blanca [Whites Flash Mob] will create an unforgettable atmosphere as Carlo Ancelotti's men make their way to the ground to continue their quest for La Undecima [an 11th European Cup]."

The Bernabeu club have also released a video entitled "Because you are there" to help build the atmosphere ahead of the clash against Atletico, who have bounced back from the heartbreak of losing last season's Champions League final to Real by being unbeaten in seven derbi games this season.

Meanwhile, the 3,161 Atletico fans who have official away tickets for the game are to meet north of stadium in Plaza Castilla at 6 p.m. local time.

They will then walk the short distance to the Bernabeu, shepherded by police, before entering together at around 7 p.m.

A similar setup for last week's first leg at the Calderon did not run as smoothly as planned, with streets around the stadium being blocked as buses carrying fans arrived late, leaving other supporters standing outside the stadium for over half an hour.

UEFA are investigating that incident, and could fine the Calderon club due to "organisational deficiencies which caused stadium access points to be blocked."
